Chances for Northwestern University?

<p>I am a junior at a Catholic high school and I am seriously considering NU to be my number one choice. Any input from you guys about my chances at acceptance would be great:</p>

<p>As of this month (academics):
ACT: Highest score: 31 (34E/32M/28R/31S/09Essay)
(This is one of my weaker aspects of my application)
GPA (on a 5.0 scale) 5.71 about 3.8-3.9 ish on regular scale
Currently in 3 AP's 3 Honors classes (AP Chem, US History, English Lang)
Taking 6 AP next year (Bio, Psych, Physics C, Calc BC, English Lit, Spanish)
I have gotten all A's except for a B+ in English freshman year, B in Geometry sophomore year, B+ in religion sophomore year.
Our school offers the National Spanish Exam, scored 95%,97% percentile respectively over the last two years (relatively high)
Overall: I suck at standardized testing but I am pretty consistent with grades and I challenge myself with alot of AP classes)</p>

<p>Extracurriculars:
3 years of soccer (1 varsity) Conference champions, Regional champions
2 years of tennis (JV & varsity)
Math team (our school is known for its good math team) We win regionals every year and compete down state (finished 4th last year, I placed 2nd last year and this year at regionals individually)
Scholastic bowl team (2 years, 1 varsity) Regional runner up 2 years in a row
National Spanish Honors Society (Secretary, tutor weekly)
NHS (service projects, tutor weekly as well)
Volunteer at local Ronald McDonald House every other week for 4 hours, been doing so for 1 year now (joining their teen board next school year to get some more leadership aspects on my application)
Student ambassador at my school (give tours, host school events, etc.)
I finished my last year of polish school recently (every week for 4 hours, 12 years)
Pretty much everything i can think of at this point</p>

<p>Hooks: I am going to NU's infocus seminar for medicine this summer. I am also planning to apply ED. I am also first gen american if that helps at all (probably doesn't)</p>

<p>I think at this point I look relatively well rounded but my ACT score blows. what can i do to increase my chances? I also plan on taking the sat 2 subject tests, thanks</p>

<p>Work hard and try to bring up your GPA and ACT score a little bit. You are now near the borderline. </p>

<p>Wow Your EC’s are great
I think NU would take you </p>

<p>chance me

<p>Solid shot improve your ACT or even take the SAT :)</p>

<p>Get your ACT up one more point! Then you should have a chance.</p>

<p>I mean, you still have a chance. 32 would just solidify that.</p>

<p>I second mlolo</p>

<p>32 would give you a better chance than 31, but it is still far from solidifying the chance. It is still at or slightly below admission average. The admission rate is 12.9% this year and I see many students rejected with better scores.</p>

<p>Right now I’d put NU at a mid/high match. If you can get your ACT up a little, you should have a great chance of getting in.</p>

<p>Chance back
<a href=“Chances for UVA and Vanderbilt. Will chance back. - Chance Me / Match Me! - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1634747-chances-for-uva-and-vanderbilt-will-chance-back-p1.html&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

<p>Just FYI, a student with ACT 35 GPA 4.0 and full scores in SAT2 and AP has a 50% calculated chance at Parchment for NU.</p>

<p>I’m no expert but I am an alum - and my son did not get in this year. He had a 2310 SAT, 3.7 GPA at a magnet school where all classes are honors level, similar ECs to you although he was also a top athlete. Hard to figure, as he did get into UofC and Dartmouth. Maybe they didn’t like me! </p>

<p>If you talk about your NU seminar in an essay or have one of your professors at that seminar write a recommendation for you, you have a better chance of getting in. I agree with everyone else in that you can bring your ACT score up to improve your chances. Try taking the SAT and see how well you do on that, because it’s an entirely different test that could be better for certain people.</p>
