Hi all. This is for my son. I am trying to help him open his mind to many schools (he has a lot of apps in from Ivies to safeties). Anyway, his lifelong dream is Notre Dame. Family school etc. He’s comfortable there. Anyway, here are the basics. Applied REA, ACT 35ss, 34C, 35M, 36R, 36S, 32E. (Hoping last week’s test was better)
Varsity swimmer 2 years state finalist, Rowing last 2 years, Robotics captain 3 years. (That’s his big activity) Started a STEM program for underserved kids at an after school program, procured equipment etc. Congressional App challenge winner. 3.95/4.0 UW. School doesn’t rank. Really wants NROTC. Sister graduated from USNA and still active which I think could help? Not a legacy but grandfather, 2 uncles, 2 cousins ND and me and sister were Saint Mary’s. Takes care of large acreage property and has a disabled father who is currently not well and has more needs that he also attends to. Essays were ok (more a math/science kid than a writer) ND Summer scholars 2019. Coast Guard and AFA summer seminars. Navy Stem camp. He got his ROTC package submitted complete for the first board this October. Thanks for input.
Sorry it had to be moved. I thought I posted right. oops. Thanks for any insights.
@Navy09mom - Sounds like your son is a great candidate. Unfortunately, the only suggestion I have is contact the NROTC recruiter. They will have the best, most accurate info. To your daughter - GO ARMY, BEAT NAVY!
Go Army? No no no. LOL That rivalry is amazing. One of the best pieces of advice ever given was make sure to attend at least 1 Army/Navy game.
Totally agree! This year is at West Point. Wish I could be there.
Reach out to the NROTC unit at the university. Back in 2012 my DS was admitted to ND EA, he received a letter from unit explaining NROTC scholarship. He actually applied for scholarship late and was offered a NROTC scholarship ISR. Back then, receipt of scholarship and school acceptance were two separate actions with no influence on one another. DS scholarship was assigned to state school so he had it transferred to ND…
In 2016 DS2 applied for NROTC scholarship very early and was awarded scholarship 1st board. He applied to ND regular decision and was able to mention scholarship in his application. He was admitted to ND…no idea if having the scholarship influenced admissions. I do know his CO has indicated there is influence now than there has been before and I know ND is looking to keep their NROTC numbers up.
