My number one choice is Washington University in St. Louis. Here are my stats; it's my first time posting on CC so tell me if I'm doing it right...

HS: large public school in CA/ so far ranked 1 out of class of about 500.
GPA: 4.0/4.0; 4.3 weighted
SATI: 780 M/ 800 V/ 740 W- 2320 total
SATIIs: French - 760; Chemistry- 790; Math II- 800
APs: 8 total by the time I graduate (Currently taking 4)
Currently a junior, set to apply to my dream school since freshman year!

Some of my ECs (excluded a few items and my awards for anonymity):
- Class Vice-Prez sophomore year
- City youth orchestra concertmaster
- President of school's volunteer club...more than 300 hours of volunteer service around the community
- Summer research program- selected as one of 20 out of 200 applicants...Siemens Westinghouse semifinalist
- Amateur writer - published in online and printed poetry and fiction magazines (not anything big name but it's an accomplishment for me)

What do you guys think of my chances for WashU?
I'll be part of the pool of 22,000+ applicants, tough competition... so yea, be as harsh as you want!

I want to add that I’ve been involved in my ECs since freshman year (besides the class vp…and I was just a member in the volunteer club freshman year)

Also, I’m in a junior varsity sport, but the coach says next year I’m set to be on varsity.

I really think you’re in, just like everyone else here is saying
and yes, you should also apply for an even more prestigious school! you never know!

You should apply to Harvard and Stanford as safety schools.
Write good essays, select good teachers for your recs, visit the school, sign up for an interview and apply ED.

michiganfall: 2300 SAT is great but “3ish GPA” is a killer. Without a major hook I see no chance.
DS has 2290 and 3.6UW/3.9W and I call it a high reach.

Thanks for all your assessments.
Washington University is prestigious in its own right, and I’ve just fallen in love with the campus (visited freshman summer) and the people from my high school who’ve been accepted rave about it. Btw, one person from my high school who got in had even higher SATI numbers than I did and “higher” leadership positions (except they were not in orchestra, but they were heavily involved in high school activities). But nice to know I might have a decent shot. Thanks again guys!
Anyone want to differ in opinion please do so!

That’s good to know xD hahaha…one guy from my hs got in/ went and he had even higher SATI than me (plus “better” ECs)
Ach, I think I might apply to Cornell and Columbia for the NY feel, but really rooting for Washington University STL just cuz I absolutely was blown away with the school when I visited.

Thanks guys for your input so far. Anyone else?

Dont get too confident.
Your academic stats are great but you seem to be lacking something impressive (not in an offensive way just a hook or something) with your ec’s
dont forget many of the people applying have very high grades and scores, and some still dont get it, but you are definitely the type of student wustl is looking for

Thanks for a dose of reality, killermonkey…
I know, and that’s why I’m worried…Washington University in St. Louis students have really high GPAs/ SATI scores and also great ECs. I’m hoping to show in my essay that I’ve really dedicated my time and leadership skills in the organizations I am in…and how music is a big part of my life.
Good to know I’m in the range though. Thanks again for your input.

You’re definitely in.
Washington University in St. Louis is an excellent school, but it doesn’t get the number of applications it would if it were on one of the coasts. Midwestern schools are just easier to get into.
