i’ll be applying to colleges this fall and was wondering what my chances are for getting into the nursing major at any of the CSU’s or any direct entry nursing program on the west coast, really.
GPA:
UW: 3.82
W: 3.96
SAT:
1280/1600 (630 reading/writing, 650 math)
Thanks!
SDSU and CSUF are the only direct admit CSU schools for Nursing. For SDSU, you need a minimum EI of 4300 (if local) and around 4400+ (if non-local). CSU Fullerton is slightly easier with their minimum EI of 4200. Even if you make the minimum, there is no guarantee of admission with a 5% acceptance rate or less. Your Stats are competitive, so you have a solid chance at many of CSU’s that offer the Pre-nursing major (2+2) program. Apply to several and see what happens.
Other direct admit Nursing programs in California include University of San Francisco and Azusa Pacific University. I would check these out.
Good Luck.
wait my UC/CSU GPA is 4.07 if that changes anything hahaha
You have a competitive UC/CSU GPA but with the low admit rates for direct entry nursing programs, nothing is a guarantee.
UCI Nursing stats:
Fall 2016 Freshman Applicants: 2,264
Fall 2016 Freshman Admits: 82 (3.5% admitted)
Average UC GPA: 4.25 GPA
Average Total SAT Scores: 1962 (avg 650 each section)
CSU Fullerton: A bit dated
134 people have been offered admission and only about 35 eligible freshmen will enroll the program out of 3,834 applicants. These freshman will get direct-entry into the generic BSN program for the fall 2014 admission cycle.
SDSU Nursing Stats/Info:
Admission to the School of Nursing is very competitive. Over the past two years, successful direct admission applicants had an average high school GPA of 3.96, SAT score of 1250, and a Math SAT score of 649. Admission to the School of Nursing is for the fall semester only.
Students with the top GPAs and test scores will be ranked for admission by the SDSU Office of Admissions. Students will be admitted according to rank and the number of positions available.
All nursing programs at the CSU’s are impacted meaning far more applicants than spots available. Direct entry programs are the most difficult.
I would apply to several direct entry programs and several of the Pre-Nursing 2+2 programs due to the competitive nature of these programs. CSULB/CSUF/SDSU/UCI maybe UCLA?/Cal State LA/San Bernadino/San Marcos/Sac State/Channel Islands…
Apply to a variety of schools and you should have several acceptances come spring.
