I'm applying for Tisch's Film and Television program, and know that my essays and creative submissions will probably make or break me. It sounds awful to say but I'd be underselling myself if I didn't say that I am generally a very good writer and artist (I'm applying with the storyboard for my creative submission and my drawing skill is very strong.)

My essay topics are:

Common App: How I believe in not denying things (pop-cultural things) that you used to love, because even if they embarrass you now, they once made you happy and have shaped who you are. This is tied into an anecdote about how I still keep a Pikachu plushie I've had since I was four for that very reason. It's been read by four people so far, two of them teachers, who have said that the essay is very good and carries a strong personal voice without seeming like i'm trying to be quirky or weird.

Leadership anecdote: Unwritten as of now but in planning. About being art director for playfest and the stuff I had to oversee from planning right through judging night.

Personal Narrative/Short Story: Unwritten as of now, but in planning. About the revelation that my best friend self-harmed and how it changed my perspective on the world, but most of all my perspective of myself and the differences between myself and others.

NYU is my top choice and I am applying ED I to maximize my chances, but in the event that I am rejected, I will also be applying to USC, Calarts, RISD, Carnegie Mellon, Syracuse and SVA. How do my chances look at these schools?

Thank you for reading and for your help!

If you get rejected from NYU, ill eat my Harvard acceptance letter. I think you have a great chance at ALL of those schools! This might be too late, but are you sure ED is right for you? Last thing you want is to be locked into a $@*# financial aid package. Let me know how it goes!

You are an excellent candidate for admission at NYU.

NYU - good fit
CMU - reach
RISD - as you said this one depends on your essays
Syracuse - good fit
USC - reach only because it has become much more competitive the last few years
Good luck!

Thank you for looking it over and taking time to reply!

Yeah, my parents and I thought it over, and decided to do ED because it’s my first choice school, and we’d never get substantial need-based aid from them, no matter when I apply. We’re pretty well off and I know their statistics for financial aid packages. We figured we’d just take what we’re given, I’ll get a job this summer and we’ll take out some loans. My dad also comes from a family where people generally help their kids pay for tuition, so he’s always said he’d help me out some, which i’m really grateful for.

I will be sure to let you know C:
And hey, congratulations on that Harvard acceptance!

NimGreene, if it comes  haha I was joking. But it’s good for ED, if you get into NYU, you can focus on taking AP’s for college credit, which IMHO are great $87 gambles.
