Chances for NYU? I'll chance back!

My heart is set on NYU. What are my chances?

SAT 1: 740 reading, 630 math, 710 writing (11 on the essay)
SAT 2: (predicted) 750+ U.S. History, 730+ English, 630+ French
I'm going to take the AP tests in U.S History, English, and French
GPA: 4.36 (weighted, out of 5)

Junior classes: AP U.S. History, Honors English, Honors French, Pre-Calc, Chem, Journalism
Senior classes: AP English, AP French, AP U.S. Gov, Legal, Stats, Graphic Design

I generally maintain a B+ average, with some A-.

ECs:
Varisty gymnastics team (9 - 12) + Captain (12)
President of the French Club (11 - 12)
Dance teacher (10 - 12)
French immersion summer program (10)
Newspaper staff member (9 - 12) + potential editor (12)
Summer internship: fashion/lifestyle/health/politics journalism (11)
I run my own fashion blog (11 - 12)

Volunteer work:
Gymnastics workshops for kids (9 - 12)
Junior counselor at a summer camp (10)
Chair of a fundraiser for Haiti (11)

Legacy:
Uncle went to NYU for grad school and is now a part-time law professor
Grandfather went to NYU for undergrad
Dad did one year of grad school at NYU (then transferred to McGill)
Second cousins donated a building

Reasonably good essay, great recommendations. (One from my French teacher/French Club sponsor, one from my AP History teacher, one from my gymnastics coach.)

I'm a white female from a middle/upper class town at a competitive public high school. Second generation American on one side. (I don't need financial aid - does that up my chances?)

I'm most likely applying to CAS, with a double major in Journalism and something else - probably Media, Communications, and Culture. What are my chances? Let me know!

I would say its a high target for you. Unless those second cousins have the same last name as you  then it would be a safety. Most good schools are need blind so the lack of financial aid doesnt help, though it does depend if you are in state or not. Retaking the SAT’s might be a good idea as well, try to bring the math up.

Chance me please!

Unfortunately, my second cousins have a different last name! Oh well. :(

I’ve already retaken the SATs. I had a 620 on the math the first time around, worked with a math tutor in between tests, and it only increased 10 points. I’m not great at math, so I don’t know if it would improve if I took the test a third time.

I don’t think you need to take French SAT2 if you’re not going to do that well. I think 2 is enough…
you seem on your way there. especially with that legacy haha. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/897711-chance-me.html#post1064516154

I think it looks around a match for you. Good weighted GPA, good SAT, and quite a legacy!

It seems like a proper match. Good luck!

try to get your grades up a bit, but in general, it looks like a match
Chance? Thanks.

I think that you should mention your cousins in your essay! lol, somehow fit it in there. Anyways, I think that your legacy helps you a bit, and your grades and scores make it safe to saythat you’re a match.

I want to go to NYU too! Unfortunately, I don’t have a legacy :frowning: Chance me back!

I think that you are definitely a match/high match. Your ECs show a focus that coincides with your major, and your GPA and other stats are strong! Best of luck!
