Chances for NYU? Other schools in NYC?

Hey, whitemale, not good school or test grades,
dual citizinship, switzerland-Us born in switzerland, dad is half morrocan and half swiss
3.41 weighted gpa took practice sats and got 1760, will aim for 1800-1900 when i take the october ones, but ill also try the october act.
currently in ap french , thats the only ap im taking so far have an A average
dont really know what eg means but some things ive done outside of school are
spent march - july of my junior year at a french school in geneva, switzerland.
took french classes twice a week, 2.5 hours each time played tennis once a week and took sailing classes once a week (4hrs) there aswell
during the summer took french classes for 3 weeks 9-4:45 5 times a week at the university of geneva
ran cross country for 3 years but was pretty bad only jv

joining french club this year

spent a week doing community service sophomore year in new hampshire (amc)
i know im wayyyyyy below the sat score / gpa but i hope to try and raise both a little this year, (ill still be way under) but I am currently in NYC, live near boston, and i am in love with the city here and i would love to be here, studying buisness, international buisness, or entrprenurship not really sure, and this place seems really diverse and places importance on abroad programs, so i was hoping that i spent 5 months in switzerland could help. What do you guys think my chances are? I think im applying ED, cus i just love it here so far only other school ive visited is north eastern and this just blows it out of the water. anyother schools in nyc that have decently big student bodies, so i would be constantly meeting new people, that i could look in to and visit? cus if i dont get in to nyu i would still love to be in nyc

Not sure about the state NY colleges but NYU is hard. 3.41 unweighted is low for them.

33% had h.s. GPA of 3.75 and higher
39% had h.s. GPA between 3.5 and 3.74
16% had h.s. GPA between 3.25 and 3.49
11% had h.s. GPA between 3.0 and 3.24
1% had h.s. GPA between 2.5 and 2.99

Now - that’s probably unweighted GPA.

Your SAT is low. Too low for NYU by far. Raise it to 2100+.

Your ECs aren’t superb, mostly traveling. Try to get more leadership positions. If you can raise your GPA to 3.55+ UW and get a lot more ECs, 2100+ SAT and take SATIIs and get a 650-700+, you have a small chance. By the way, Stern NYU (business school) is #6 in the US, and it’s near impossible to get into with those grades. Avg SAT there is 2150 and GPA is 3.75.

Also im fairly sure i will have good college essays, writing about my trip to switzerland and how i grew and became more independent / mature and then the week of community service at trail camp for my short one

sarora what about acts, i hear their easier to score well enough on, and so do i just not have any chance on getting in?
im gonna try get my gpa up to 3.6 unweighted
what other schools could be good in nyc?

Not really easier. If you’re good at science, I guess. 3.6UW GPA is good, but your ECs have to improve for Stern NYU.

City University of New York (CUNY) is a better match, Baruch college.

wierd, it doesnt take the common app, but whats it like, alot of people, good buisness, international feel, study abroad?

and would it even be worth it to apply ED to NYU?

If you raise GPA to 3.55-3.6 UW, SAT 2050+ or ACT 31-33, and improve ECs, you can apply ED NYU for a shot.

CUNY is a state school. Only 5k tuition. NYU is 41K not including room and board. It’s a decent value school. Good for business (Baruch). It’s located in NYC.

Id probably be llooking for a school a little better, and 41k is expensive, but if i got in it wouldnt be an issue

how about fordham or hofstra? what are those like?

also what is the drug/alcohol policy at these school

Not sure about those.

“also what is the drug/alcohol policy at these school”

WHY do you ask? That’s a weird question…of course, drugs and alcohol are not allowed on campus.

yeah i know but will you get kicked out for possesion or what? is it a warning system are they leniant? its obviously gonna happen at college, but i just want to know how bad it will be if i was to get caught, obviously im not basing my college life around alchohal and recreational drugs, but lets be realistic… an 18 year old male in new york city…

If you raise your SAT then you definitely have a good shot… http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1212123-chance-tough-schools-will-chance-back.html</a> chance back please

are there any other schools in nyc that are decent i could probably get in to decent size student body and have an international feel? do u guys know around what percent chance i have of getting in nyu?

NYU is hard to get into. If you get caught drinking, you will most likely get suspended for a short time, or at least in trouble with the dorm staff. It’s NYC, but you can’t be partying with alcohol in your dorm. If you do it more than once you can be removed from the university. With your current stats and SAT score, the chances of you getting in NYU is about 5%, the business school (Stern) about 0.0005%. I am being harsh because this is realistic - NYU Stern is #6 in the country and falls in league with the Ivies. You really need to get a 3.55+ GPA and at least a 2050 to have a small, small chance. Your ECs need to improve tremendously.

what other schools at nyu are there that i could maybe get in to?

i would not mind studying (french) what exactly does arts and science detail?

Hofstra University!
Even though it’s outside of NYC…

I’d look at Hofstra University, in Hempstead, which is 25 miles east of NYC (but they allow freshman to have cars on campus, and transportation is available if you want to get to NYC). Hofstra would probably take you… You fall in line with the admitted applicant stats there. You’re current SAT puts you in the right place, and they accept GPAs all across the board, so you still have a shot. Your ECs shouldn’t be a huge worry there… I hear they’re pretty generous with aid, so that’d always nice. It’s a nice size (just under 7500 students), has a nice campus, a good student to faculty ratio, and it’s pretty diverse. Hofstra also has good academics (as reviewed by students), especially in the way of the professors themselves. Programs in business and programs in education are pretty strong, and you say business interests you, so that’s good(: Hofstra also just built a new med school, and already has a law school. For some reason, it seems to me that Hofstra has more prestige than it really should haha, which is good, if you go there(: I think Hofstra should definitely be on your radar, as you have a pretty good chance there and it’s in the right area.
You might wanna’ look into some CUNYs and SUNYs too.
Good luck!(:

Chance me everyone?(:

Nah i dont really like hofstra too much

The problem is, you have your heart set on NYU. If you don’t like Hofstra, CUNY, SUNY, etc., there’s nothing else for you really. There may be some small colleges but those are really the big ones. NYU is a difficult, difficult school. You need to get that SAT, GPA, and ECs improved to have a small chance there.
