NYU is my first choice hands down. I want to apply to Stern, but I’ve heard it’s super selective compared to the other colleges. I don’t know what I want to go into yet (maybe management or marketing), but I was planning on applying regular decision. Let me know my chances!
-GPA: 4.59 unweighted
-Rank: 4 out of 438
-Senior classes: AP Calculus BC, AP English Literature & Composition, AP Psychology, Spanish 4 Honors, World Geography Honors, Physiology, and Journalism (I skipped my lunch)
-ACT: 30 (I also took it in October, so I haven’t gotten my scores yet)
-AP exams: 3’s on English Language & Composition and U.S. History
-Extracurriculars: National Honor Society president, speech captain, community service chairman for student council, KEY club editor, book club historian, Spanish club (I traveled to Costa Rica this past summer), writer for the school newspaper, member of a newly established anti-bullying club, and I’m working on obtaining around 100 hours of service work.
-Honors: Other than NHS, I’m also a member of Spanish Honor Society, National Forensic League, and Mu Alpha Theta. I was also nominated for the Sons of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award.
What are your guys’ thoughts? I’ve asked a similar question before, but I just want to know the reality of getting accepted into my dream school. Also, if anyone could give me advice on their financial aid or any info on great scholarships, please let me know! I know that it’s $70k a year, so I don’t want my parents to drown in student loans. I just feel like Stern would be a great opportunity to introduce me to the business world and be worth the cost because of it’s reputation. Thanks!
4.6 UW GPA? is that on a 5.0 Scale?
I think your ACT is a bit low for Stern. Are you international? If so, NYU is test optional. If you can’t get your ACT up, you should apply to Arts and Sciences instead and just major in Economics.
@Sterny16 sorry I meant to say weighted.
@londondad really?? Doesn’t NYU range from 28-32? I mean I guess their colleges have individual ranges, but you think my chances are too low for Stern?
@londondad Also, no, I’m not international. I don’t want to major in economics though. I was thinking about management or marketing.
You can easily get into NYU but your act should be atleast a 32 for stern maybe even a 33. Also what is your UW GPA? Having almost a 4.7W GPA and a 30 ACT is a tad abnormal I suggest retaking the ACT if you don’t get a 32 or better. If you really like NYU go there and do management you don’t have to go to stern to do management , but if you can get into stern go if your parents can afford it! It’s an amazing program.
@Sterny16 @londondad Like I said, I just retook the ACT so we’ll see what I get. But is it possibly that if I get declined by Stern, I can still be accepted at CAS? I really just want to go to NYU, but still Stern is my preferred school.
Average SAT for stern is a 1450+. That roughly equates on the upper range of a 33 on the ACT. IMO, minimum for admission to stern is a 32, unless you qualify as a URM.
To sort of answer your question, NYU used to allow stern rejects to be picked up by CAS, but recently think they have changed that policy now.
@SternBusiness Well, on the application it asks for your second school of interest if you get rejected. My counselor basically told me to apply to any business school, and if I get rejected, then there’s still a chance I’ll get excepted into the arts and science colleges.
That is true, but I think with the new policy it is tougher to get into CAS from a Stern reject. There is still a chance though.
