i'm a senior and i want to go to nyu. my GPA is around 3.7 and i'm planning on taking around 4 AP classes soon. my SAT score: 550 in reading 560 in writing and 620 in math...
i am going to stat volunteering soon, too.

It’s a bit late to start volunteering as a senior.

How much can your parents pay each year? If your parents can’t pay for most or all of NYU’s costs, then take it off your list.

however, if your parents will pay the $55k per year, then go for it.

Where else are you applying? What is your major?

um i was actually hoping financial aid and scholarship could help me out with the tuition…
and either i will study medicine or education
still got any chances? lol
and thanks 4 replying

You should know that NYU is one of the worst schools with regard to giving out financial aid. Your SAT scores are lower than the accepted averages right now, so you should work on boosting those.

Sorry, but your stats are no where near high enough for merit scholarships at NYU. NYU states on their website that their scholarships go to the top 5% of applicants…those are going to be students whose stats are in the 99th percentile. Your scores are in the 72nd percentile. It’s very

Obviously, if you’re asking about “chances” for admission, you know that your stats are lowish for the school - so not going to get a scholarship ( You do understand that scholarships are a reward for high stats, right???)

Your SAT scores would have to be into the 700’s for each section to get a scholarship. It’s unlikely that you could raise your scores by that much.

As for financial aid…NYU doesn’t give much AT ALL. They are the poster child for LOUSY aid. If you apply, you’re going to be one of these bewildered kids we see every spring who was given a ridiculous aid package from NYU. NYU is so outrageous that they’ll suggest that a low-income single mom take out huge loans for her child’s education.

And…because of you’re considering med school or education, neither is a career where a student should borrow much for undergrad.

How much will your parents pay each year?

What state are you from.

Where else are you going to apply to?

NYU is not realistic with current scores and as others have said, chances of getting aid there are slim even if you got in. Without higher scores, you would have to look at you’re in state publics to get much aid.

Thank you for replying. I’m in ny… Feeling down now ;(

There are lots of good CUNYs and SUNYs that won’t leave you with the crippling debt NYU would so cheer up.

It’d be a miracle for you just to get into NYU. Forget about merit aid.

So, you’re a NY student.

Which SUNYs will you be applying to?

How much will your parents pay each year?

Would you qualify for TAP?

Do you know what your likely EFC is? If not…
