Chances for OOS student?

W&M is the only out of state public school I have chosen to apply too, and I am really confused about their selectivity in regards to their two pools of applicants (the IS and the OOS). I know it's not really useful at this point considering my decision is in the mail, but I really want some sort of bearing on my decision from someone more familiar than I am about the process. I just really don't want to walk out to the mailbox tomorrrow and be disappointed for the third time considering I got waitlisted to both Vanderbilt and Northwestern. So, chance me?

wow, your stats look really great to me, i’d say you’re in!

I agree…you look well rounded

I had very similar stats, was in state, and got waitlisted.

But, if my recent college admissions experience is anything to go by, who knows! It’s all so random, methinks.

We admit about 25-28% of the out-of-state students who apply so the process is more selective as out-of-state students make-up only 35% of our student body. Thus we are able to take some great students and sadly have to waitlist or deny other great students because our overall pool is so competitive. Hopefully you’ll receive your decision within the next few days.

Normally, I’d say slam dunk, you’re in. But you’re an OOS, non-URM female, an incredibly, impossibly competitive pool, due to the large numbers of highly qualified applicants competing for very few slots. I’m sure you’ll be in that category of “definitely want to admit” - just hope the numbers break in your favor.

In any case, you have a resume to be proud of, and I’m sure you’ll get in somewhere great.

Cheburashka - I’m afraid there is a large amount of apparent randomness in the process, (some of it’s not truly random, but since it’s not transparent to you, the effect is the same.)

Best of luck to both of you, and congratulations on your achievements.
