Yin, I’m applying too. When are you gonna submit your app?

Probably September or October at the latest. I looked at your thread, you’re definitely getting in. You have a better than me haha.

I’m out of state though and my class rank is very bad

What is it? Mine is like 128 out of 700 >___> you have a better shot I think.

mines top 4th decile…but I’ll have better grades this semester so i think i can get top 30%

Hey, at least you got a better test score than me. I’m taking the ACT one more time (lol my SAT is terrible. I hate the SAT.)

same here, i’m hoping for a 32+ on the act. I got a 1360 on the sat

i want a 29-30+…i only got 1180 on my math+reading :(

well, here goes. My daughter applied yesterday! Her transcripts etc are being mailed by the schol TODAY. Here are her stats:
GPA: 4.0 (they don’t weight)
Rank: #1 out of 201
Honors Spanish 4 years. Currently taking AP Bio, AP Spanish, AP English, Precalculus, Economics, Performance, Graphic Arts, CP Physics …I might be mising one?? Her school offers very limited amount of AP classes and she has taken the most difficult classes available except she started ALgebra 1 in 9th not 8th
She has been a cheerleader x 4 years, Varsity captain 11th and 12th grade, Dancer since age 3, NHS, Buckeye Girls State, Won art criticism essay award 11th grade - 1st place state of Ohio, a little big of community service but not much.

I feel really good about her chances. We are also from appalachia Ohio which gives us a llittle bump from what I hear. But of course, I am still worried. The average act score is 28.1. We went back and forth as to whether or not to wait to apply after september act results but EVERYONE I talked to on CC and her GC said do it now!! I think everything is perfect for her and if the act was a 29 I would say with 100% certainty she was in. But with a 28 I am gonna say 95% lol

OP, what is your cumulative GPA and class rank? If those are high send it in now. If my daughter scores higher on her next act we will send it for scholarship reasons. I really do feel you are ok as long as your gpa is high and you are in top 10% .

Good luck! we will be be suffering and nervous here in Ohio too while we wait to find out!!

My son raised his ACT from a 31 to a 34 with zero studying, so mere familarity with the exam should help you.

But I would prep hard for it. Seldom in life will be what you need to do to accomplish your goal so clear cut. Just raise your test score a point or two.

What did she get on her ACT/SAT, a poor score in that category would be the only reason why you’d be “worried.”

GPA means nothing if it doesn’t correlate to your ACT/SAT because A) She might of been at an easy school (“Appalachia Ohio”) B) Anybody can get a 4.0 as long as they study.

When you post in a “chance me” thread, remember that you’re there to help, not to muse over your daughter’s accomplishments, which to be frank, aren’t that impressive compared to others here on CC.

You didn’t even answer his question…

Edit* Finished reading your wall of text and noticed that she got a 28 on the ACT. No need to be snobbish with that… (95% ■■■■■)

I have a 27 on the ACT with a 3.79 GPA. I’m ranked like 128/700 ish?

Yin- I say go for it now with your current ACT and then submit your later ACT if it is better.

OSUX- I think mspearl was just saying that her D only has somewhat better stats than OP (4.0 vs 3.8 GPA, 28ACT vs 27ACT) and she feels pretty confident so maybe OP should go for it now especially if his rank is high.

OSUXIONG: I am not being snobbish at all and I was only trying to help the OP. His stats are very similar to my daughters so I thought that would make him feel better to know that she already has applied. And I only say 95% because 28 is the average act score of incoming freshman at OSU . Nothing to be LyourFAO about.

And I am well aware there are geniuses that cruise CC and I do not think my D is one of them. Unlike me, she actually has a social life and doesn’t hang out here. What about you??

And it’s “She might HAVE been at an easy school.” Not “Might of”

And please, finish reading a post before you reply with a snarky comment and then realize you need to edit.

Alright, thanks for this. I do have a good shot of getting in right?

You have a decent shot, but to characterize it as “good” I would want to see stats above the middle 50% of standardized test scores. If you can’t be assured of a better ACT until November, then I would apply now so you will be processed with the first batch while the school is still flush with openings and they might be more generous with acceptances.
