VP of Spanish Honor Society 2011

I am applying ED.

I also have a ton of medical issues. While this seems irrelevant, it is amazing to my teachers that I maintain such a busy school and EC schedule, on top of attending all of my doctors appointments and treatments. This will be the focus of one of my essays, and I am sure that my teachers will include it in their recs.

All suggestions are welcome!

I really believe that you will get in. but then again, i think you knew that. ur not gonna get a whole lot of replies on this. smh.

You look pretty good. I would retake the SAT II’s again but only if you can be sure to raise your score (should ideally be aiming for a 750+). I think it’s good that you’re focused so heavily on one specific EC, most people are in like 20012907 EC’s but aren’t really involved in any of them, I think your’s is better but then again, as a fellow Penn hopeful that isn’t exactly the most knowledgeable, I wouldn’t take my word to heart necessarily. I wouldn’t say you’re “for sure” going to get in, because schools like Penn are so competitive that your resume despite it’s impressive stature is still average amongst the masses applying. Good luck! Hope we both get in :D

Thank you! Hopefully we will both be 2015 penn graduates. Im more concerned with retaking my SAT I, but i might retake the subject tests, though I dont think i would improve too drastically. Standardized testing just isnt my thing :/

Hopefully indeed! Good luck on your SAT’s and if I may make a suggestion, I would like to recommend you also try looking into the ACT, I’ve found that some people like the orientation of the ACT better and tend to do awesome on it even if their SAT score doesn’t correspond to it (ie: someone I know: 1900 SAT, 33 ACT). Even if you don’t do better, it’s not a big deal, Standardized testing isn’t in my point of the view the greatest indicator of a student’s readiness for a specific university, just rock the essays and stay on track.

Exactly! I will probably end up taking the ACT come fall, my mother just wasnt keen on me taking it, since she doesnt really understand what it is. Ill be sure to post everything as I get it. Im hoping my essays and everything will be enough to overshadow some of my weaknesses, my essays are generally pretty outstanding.

pennbound1393 - You have a major problem here. Your SAT I is a 1980 composite: that doesn’t even hit the 25% mark for acceptees to Penn. If you want to be a serious candidate for admission, and that’s what it sounds like, you need a 2100 or higher when you retake, preferably a 700 or higher in each section, or at least close to that.

If you can manage to do that, I think you have a good shot. Definitely make one of your essays about your passion for theatre - that’s what adcoms like to see: real commitment in 1 to 3 EC’s, not 10 EC’s with little to no leadership/awards.

Good luck!

Thank you sooo much!
I know my SAT scores can pretty much be classified as bad but I am going to retake in september and will probably go up 50-75 points in each section. I didnt study last time but have already started for my next round! One of my essays will certainly be about theatre.

Right, I’d say a 60% chance. Your main problem is standardized tests, but I’m sure that you know that.

Chance me: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/953055-please-chance.html

thank you! trust me im working on those SATs… i dont know how i can get all 5s on my APs but i have so much trouble with the SAT.

Also I go to Stanton, a nationally recognized school that has been in the top 10 schools for the past decade.

yeah, just keep working on the SATs. other than that, the theater stuff is really cool and unique, especially for a Penn applicant (I think!)
