I’m in 8th grade applying for 9th. My current grades are all high A’s, and four are high school classes. They are:
-Geometry Honors
-Biology Honors
-Speech and Debate
-US History
-Cambridge English
-Global Perspectives
I have never gotten a B on overall report cards ever. I participated in Duke TIP over the summer, and I’m also a Jack Kent Cooke Young Scholar. MY extracurriculars are:
- Student Council (I’ve been a grade representative and historian)
-CCD (for Catholicism, lots of community service)
-Girl Scouts (again, lots of community service)
-Advanced Art classes (as a class, but I’ve done competition work)
-Speech and Debate (as a class, but I’m on the competition team)
-Chorus (formerly, but I hope to restart if accepted)
-Violin (formerly, but I have two years of experience)
-Math club (I have been on the main competition team for 3 years out of 5)
I’m Indian and I live in Florida, if that helps my chances at all. I also came up with a pretty neat idea to bring to the Nest in my essay. I am also a published poetry author, and my poetry has been published in Young Writers of America. What drew me to Andover was the school’s passion for doing good through service, as well as the inclusive environment. I’m a natural hard worker as well. I’ve been told I’m a good speaker, and I’m prepared for my interview in December. I’m also currently prepping for my SSATs, but I am not the best test taker. What are my chances of getting in?
Honestly no one can say for sure but you sound like a strong applicant assuming your SSAT score is also strong. Are you applying anywhere else?
Yes! I am also applying to Lawrenceville, Exeter, and a couple of local private schools as safety schools.
I’m not an expert at this, but I’m impressed! As an applicant also applying for A and E I can say that your EC’s and classes look a lot better than mine and others x) I’ll leave the chancing to the more experienced folks. Good Luck on your admission process!
Thanks! Good luck to you as well.
Are you a 2016 Jack Kent Cook Young Scholar? If so, congratulations! and I’d think you would have an excellent chance at Andover, from what I understand (no personal experience). There are only 45 JKCF Scholars, chosen from a field of more than 2000 applicants. Did you take the SAT as part of the TIP talent search? If you did and you shared your scores that might help people to give you some more feedback, since you don’t have SSAT scores yet. But, assuming you do well on the SSAT (maybe above an 85%?), I’ll say again that I think you’ve got an excellent chance at PA. Good luck!
hey, good luck! im also applying (but for 10th grade) i wish you the best!
your application looks great, too!
Hi! This is the OP. My SAT scores weren’t too good (as they were taken on a whim) but I’ve recently received my SSAT scores and I scored in the 99th percentile.
Nicely done! Though far from a guarantee of admisssion, I think it’s safe to safe that your SSAT score will not be a reason for you not to be admitted. Best of luck to you!!
