I just saw the school and I am considering ED. Any help on chances would be great. Thanks.
GPA: 3.4 UW (Bad yes, but my school is competitive)
APs: Junior year: Lit and Comp: 4 Physics: 3
Senior year: Language and Comp, Bio, Chem
SATs: 790 CR, 760 M, 750 W (2300)
SAT IIs: Math IC: 700, Physics: 660, US History: 710
ECs: Area All-State on instrument from 8th through 12 grades
Attend NY Saturday program for said instrument 8-11
Varsity Lacrosse, 9, 10, 12
Varsity Ski: 11, 12
Worked at summer sleepaway camp last summer for 4 weeks
Work in NYC this summer for whole summer

bump... come on, help

as for your scores, your sats 1 is good, but 2s, APs, and GPA could be stronger. when you say work in nyc, what exactly does that mean? it would be better if you had research up your sleeve, but if you play your cards right with what you have, i'm sure you'll be fine. varsity ski-ing? that's pretty cool, definitely not a norm for high schools. or any school really.

The working was basically filing things and getting a non-profit humanitarian agency prepared for the new fiscal year. Any other help?

your gpa could def use some improvement. why is the fact that your school is competitive a reason for a low gpa?

I completely agree that my GPA sucks. Do you think that it will completely break my application? Also, I just figured that since the grading system is competitive, it may be one of the reasons my GPA is bad.

how's your rank?
if you ranks highly, the GPA could be ok

My school doesnt rank so that doesnt help.

your physics AP and SAT2 are both not as good as others. If your transcripts also were like these, it would be a weak point of your application. However, your SAT1 is quite good, I think you have nice chance under ED.

Thanks a lot Sphinx. Any other input is much appreciated.

Come on folks. Can I get in?

we can't tell you whether you're gonna get in or not. there are people from last year with 1570s etc. on sat 1s who didn't get in.

it's all about making yourself seem unqiue and wanted by colleges. but definitely, scores/gpa will be the first cut.

laxster...i would say to really work on your first semester grades since NU requests them...they can boost your status i think....also, i came from a very competitive h.s. and i used that struggle as well as another of my situations as my "hook" for my personal statement...for me i think it came down to the essay...find your hook and you should have a great chance! no one can tell you if you're going to get in for sure, though. obviously you're passionate about NU - make that shine through your app. good luck!
