Chances for Pratt Comp Sci?

Why…would you try to get into Pratt when you aren’t majoring in engineering?
As a male, your chances of getting into Pratt are less than your chances of getting into Trinity.

Yeah, Comp Sci is in Trinity (the Arts & Sciences school), so you wouldn’t be applying to Pratt.

I didn’t realize that Pratt didn’t have CS, since usually the B.S. major for CS is in the engineering school. Anyway, what would be my chances for Trinity then? :P

While CS is in Trinity, ECE (Electrical and Computer Engineering) is in Pratt. Here’s some more information about the differences:
[cs vs. ce | Engineering at Duke University, Pratt School](Archived Story | Duke Pratt School of Engineering)

It’s fairly common to do a ECE/CS double major:

Your stats are all top notch so I’d say you’re chances are good, but you never know. Frankly, I think your may be more of a sure thing in Pratt vs. Trinity since it’s generally thought that Pratt is more numbers-based (if you have really high SAT/GPA esp in math and science your chances are good; if you have below average stats, ECs can’t make up for them as much), while Trinity leads more to variability (lower stats people can get in with other hooks, but super high stats people like you are more often rejected). Having said that, I wouldn’t try to game the admissions system, but apply to the school that has the program you’re more interested in. If you double major in ECE/CS, you must be in Pratt.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info, though I am most interested in going into software engineering or something like that, so I’d prefer pure CS rather than ECE. Plus, I want to double major in Econ, so doing so would be a lot easier in Trinity, right?

Anyone else know what my chances are for admission?

I think you have a very good chance. I’m going to Pratt this year (class of 2015), and here were my stats, if you’re interested. No one can say for sure if you’ll get in though, and it’s very hard for me to give you a % chance. But you might as well apply.

Major: Electrical + Computer Engineering (ECE)
Ethnicity: Asian (Chinese)
SAT: 2360 (M 800, W 790, CR 770)
SAT II: Physics 800
Chemistry 800
Math II 800
U.S. History 790
GPA UW (before Senior year): 3.97 (1 B freshman year)
W : 4.3
AP: 11 tests (including Senior year)

various awards + extracurriculars, etc. I had a lot of math awards that I put on my application.

Do you go to a very competitive school, i.e. top 100 high schools in the U.S? If so, I think that improves your chances. Also, if you really want to go, you should apply Early Decision.
