Chances for prep-schools/recommendations

Hello everyone. I'm new on this site and I'm looking for someone to recommend some prep-schools for me too look into or chances of getting into some good ones.

I'm a 8th grader with a late birthday for my grade and i attend an average public middle school in NY. I plan on going to prep-school for 10th-12th grade, so I will attend my public high school for 9th grade. It is Paul D. Schreiber High School and is has a reputation for being one of the best public high schools in the country.
I am on of the top students in my grade and I consistently get A's/A+'s with an occasional B+ in the non-major classes like technology. I get max. scores on the standardized math test every year and very high on the English, social studies, and English tests. I am in Integrated Algebra (the highest possible math class for my grade) and Earth Science (the highest possible science class for my grade). I got a 100% on my math mid-term this year and will be in honors for both math and science next year, and will do an English honors optional project next year. I play lacrosse (since 2nd grade) and row crew (since 7th grade). I also snowboard (since I was 5). I placed 2nd in my school for the NYSMC and I've played trumpet since 2nd grade. If I remember more, I will post.

I have not taken the SSAT yet but I expect very high scores since I am good at math and essay writing.

You should definitely apply for boarding school!

However, I hear it’s harder to get in for grade 10…

I would say it is much preferred and recommended by students and schools to start boarding school sophomore year rather than junior or senior year. Junior year is probably the most crucial year in high school and it will be much difficult that way. Sophomore year is perfect; you get the time to adjust.

You would be a great candidate. What other interests do you have? What are you passionate about? There are a lot of great schools out there and it’s all about the ones that really fit your interests.

thanks! i just wanted to know that it wouldnt be a waste of my time applying. what do you think my chances for exeter or andover are? or deerfield? i would like to add that i have an in school suspension this year for bystanding a fight and a detention for something stupid my whole math class got in trouble for. i am very interested in making films and i have made a couple, most being comedies and comedic actions. i went to nyfa film camp over the summer and studied film production.

I don’t think schools will care about your detention. You suspension is different. That might effect your chances. Aside from that, you seem like you have a great chance. Prep schools really like kids who row crew so that will help your chances.

Well guess what? I’m a film geek, too. It’s not often I come across one. Let me PM you. I may have schools you may be interested to look at.

I have PMed you. Check it out. I hope you find it informative. That was easily the longest PM I have ever written. But I’m glad to help, especially knowing that you’re interested in films.

Check out the schools I suggested and hopefully you’ll know what to do to impress the schools when you apply after reading my advice.

Good luck!
