Any input on what I need to improve to get the Presidential Scholarship?

Perhaps your modesty...just a bit.

my modesty? i am simply asking for my chances at getting the presidential scholarship. im not on here boasting about my accomplishments. that is an honest representation of me...in fact i left things out as to not boast. i could have put academic awards on there but i didnt

tennisboy, I think ChiDad was being facetious. If you even glanced at the VillaNova website, you would see that your stats are well over qualified compared to the avg. admitted stats. It does sound like you were fishing for compliments, if you had just done a little webwork on your own before posting......

you're a lock. don't even worry. I might take one less ap class if I were you though. 5 is A LOT, especially in your senior year.

smoltz and bandnerd...i know i will most likely get in to villanova...im wondering about chances for presidential scholarship. any thoughts?

when I said lock, I meant to be a pres. schol. candidate. And ChiDad's right, look at other posts of kids who got in, look at the standards on the website, you'll see ur overqualified, so you don't need to make this thread so people will make you feel better by telling you something you already know. get a life.

I now find myself in agreement with ChiDad. You should worry about your ego if you are invited to campus to interview for a finalist slot. You are just trying to build yourself up now. Go online and read the Pres. Scholarship requirements. After passing the basics, whether they find your qualities desirable is anyone's guess.

You did say that you really want to go to Villanova and you know what the Presidential Scholarship is so you must have done your research on it. Therefore, is it really necessary to post again when I'm sure you've already looked into in online? As you've probably noticed, boasting doesn't go over well on here.

ya i know you guys. i am aware that i have the stats for a pres. scholarship but i also know that they look for more in a presidential scholar than just academics and standing. i was asking more if my extra curriculars and community service seem adequate.

You didn't post any community service................

over 300 hours volunteer tennis and basketball coaching, work as camp counselor at my church, red cross volunteer.

Coaching whom?

basketball: a junior high team
tennis: underpriviliged kids that train at the same academy where i train

The underpriv. kids would def. qualify. They like to see some kind of deep commitment to a cause, preferably increasing involvement over the years. I will be honest with you. My stats are higher and you can substitute all my band and leadership for your sports. I am deeply involved with my church from working with adults, Confirmation peer counseling, even teaching preschool CCD on Sundays and I have made semifinalist at all my schools. I write a mean essay. But so far, no finalist. I do not say this to be a braggart. A lot of my friends are in the same boat. Seems like my friends that are getting the bigger scholarships are females in engineering and URMs. We white males don't seem to be so desirable. Maybe that's not it, but from my little circle of friends, that is what we are seeing. Unless you have cured cancer or worked in Darfur, it is really a crapshoot as to what they want after the stats.

what are your stats?

Hi, I'm a current pres scholar at Nova, and I really have to emphasize that after meeting the basic cut-off requirements like GPA, SAT, etc., it is doubtful that your list of ec's and accomplishments is going to be quite as important as your character in determining whether you will receive the scholarship. That sounds very vague, and obviously I don't know the insider details of how they choose recipients, but my impression after going through the process was that substantial weight was placed on my essay and on my interview. In high school I certainly hadn't saved the world, and my list of ecs wasn't anything particularly extraordinary. Your ecs do reflect on your character somewhat but it seems more important to the committee how you express yourself and your ideas to them on paper and in person. Hope that helps somewhat; good luck!

thanks...that really helped a lot. that was what i was looking for in this thread.

bump(10 chars)

Look at the pres. scholarship threads and you can see stats of who got finalist and who didn't.
