Hi I'm currently a sophomore in high school looking to get into a very prestigious school. Not HYP, but something like Northwestern, Washu, or Emory. I want to major in international marketing of some sort with a pre law option. How what you rate my chances... What could i do to increase these chances

GPA: 3.93 (no weighing at my school)
AP: none offered for sophomores but am taking the maximum sophomore number of 3 next year.
IB: none at my school at all
ACT: 31 (no studying) 34 English 29 Math 34 Reading 28 Science

Ecs: Mock Trial, Speech (state qualifier), Academic Decathalon, NHS, president and founder of new ACT study club.

Community Service: Leading two mission trips to extremely poor parts of mexico. Over20 hrs at soup kitchens. Volunteering for someone running for the federal house of rep. Tutor at my school.

Work: Work at summer camp for two years already, counselor. Am not a boyscout, but run a pinewood derby track business.

Awards: All conference academic excellency award, National Spanish Exam Level 1 second place state, National spanish Exam level 2 second place state, national spanish exam gold medalist (97 percentile)

I still have a good year and a half yet before early decisions, so hopefully i can improve in all of these levels!

You’re relatively well in most areas, just keep up the good work. You could try boosting your ACT a bit and inject intense passion into your ECs. Then you’re good. 8)

Well, we can’t chance you, but you are on the right path. Study for the ACT, pull a 34, do the best you can to raise your GPA and show some passion with ECs, get involved. Then, you will most likely be in.

Involve yourself in things your love. Don’t join clubs for the sake of having something else to add to your application. Instead, focus your time on helping others in some form (fundraiser, charity events, etc). But doing the aforementioned things with something you enjoy will be crucial and colleges always look favorably at it.

Your ACT will come naturally. You can take a few more practice tests, but another year in math will undoubtedly give you an advantage. Math was my worst section because I took calculus as a junior and forgot specifics from pre-calculus and algebra.

Beyond that, do your research! What professors are you interested in studying under? What about Emory/NU/Washington do you admire? How will THOSE schools prepare you for what you want to do? Use specifics, stay humble, don’t talk about your achievements, and focus on how you will contribute to the betterment of the campus life in your pursuit of your academic and intellectual goals.

Hope that helped a little!
