Thanks in advance for any insight!
GPA: 3.7 UW / Rank = 41 out of 650 (about top 6%) Upward trend with mainly Bs, only a few As and one C freshman year and almost only A’s since
ACT Composite: 34
SAT II: All low to mid 700s
Ethnicity: Hispanic
Income: too high to qualify for aid, I’d imagine ($150-200K or so)
State: FL
Awards: Just a few academic school-level awards
APs: 4s and 5s on: Psych, World, US, ENG Comp, Chem and a 2 on Human Geo (!) To take: ENG Lit, Econ, Gov’t, Bio, Calc
Major interest: Developmental Psych/Neuroscience/Early Childhood Education
Dual Enrollment classes have mainly been focused on these topics (Stats, 2 Human Development Courses)
Earned a Childcare Development Associate Certification through my school’s Early Childhood Education program (which sparked my interest in the above). I work every other day in my school’s Early Childhood Education Lab.
School-based ECs: President of two clubs: Chemistry Club and Future Educators Club, member NHS, tutor struggling elementary school students each week. As Prez of chem club, organized Brain awareness week and hosted several events at the local elementary school to instill passion for science in students.
Church-based ECs: I am very involved in my church as a Student Leader: I chaperone middle school events, lead discussion groups, run the slideshow on Sundays, volunteer in the nursery, go abroad on Missions trips to orphanages each summer, and help coordinate and act in a yearly dinner theater show which raises money for Haiti
Work Experience: Summer: work at a preschool a few times a week // School Year: Photograph kids’ birthday parties
I know that nothing jumps out as excessively original, but I hope that my focus and deep interest in child development and in my faith shines through. My dream schools (and high reaches) are Duke and Princeton and Penn. I’ll throw Harvard and Yale in there just for kicks, too. I think Vandy might be a good match bc of the Peabody School but it is still def a reach. I am thinking Emory and Davidson are low reaches/high matches (???). I think that U of Florida and Miami are somewhat safe bets – would like to see if I could get in with scholarship and honors. Agree?
Thanks again!
