Princeton has been my top choice for a while now. My GPA is definitely low for Princeton but everything else is pretty strong. I am not a URM and have no hooks. Will my low GPA keep the admissions staff from taking me even though everything else in my application is good. I'll post all of my stats below so you can make an informed decision. I really want to go to Princeton and really hope that I can get in despite my low GPA.

GPA: 3.65 UW (with a very rigorous course load)
SAT: 2360 (800 CR, 760 M, 800 W)
SAT: US History-750, Literature-730
APs: School only offers one (AP US) before senior year and I got a 5 on it.
ECs: Model UN
Newspaper-editor (not editor-in-chief though)
Baseball- Captain of varsity
300ish hours of community service
Debate Team-Captain
Essays: Good but not amazing

Even though I really want to go to Princeton, please be honest and tell me if I have no shot. I don't want to be too disappointed if I get rejected/waitlisted. Thanks and if you chance me I promise I will chance you.

I’m not going to tell you that you have a great shot at Princeton, because you don’t. The GPA is going to hurt you tremendously. But, with the exception of the sub-par GPA for that school, the rest of your application is fantastic. If I were you, I would definitely apply. They may be a bit lenient after looking at the remainder of your application, and the GPA won’t immediately disqualify you, even though it will hurt you significantly as a majority of Princeton applicants have near perfect GPAs.

Your GPA wouldn’t have mattered for anything if you had amazing ECs (which is far, far more important than just one number that tells you how much homework you bothered to do over 4 years).

But, unfortunately, you don’t really have any good ECs. So, sorry, but, I don’t think Princeton’s within reach.

I’m a bit optimistic about your chances. The 3.65 GPA obviously is a weakness, but the scores are fantastic, well within Princeton’s range, and if you can elaborate upon some of your stronger ECs (Captain of baseball team, debate captain, ect.) you would give yourself a legitimate shot at getting in. With schools like Princeton you never know, but you certainly have a chance. Good luck!

Even though your scores are amazing, i don’t think you have great chances of getting into Princeton. I know this is not what you want to read but it’s true, people here in CC tend to overstimate SAT scores but standardized testing alone won’t get you into an ivy, that’s why soooo many 2400ers-36ers-4.0ers are rejected from top schools every year; once you have competitive scores (2100+, in some cases is even less) you have to set yourself apart in the admission process through your EC’s, community service and essays.Unfortunately your lack of EC’s is probably going to make adcoms think that you’re not passionate, i’m not saying you are, i’m just saying that they might that. Also, your gpa is kind of low. So for all the above i think you chances of getting in to Princeton are 10-12/100. I would recommend you to apply to other more stat-driven schools but i’m sure that you have a well balanced college list. I wish you the best of luck.
Chance me back if you can:
