Chances for Prospective ED applicant

<p>I'm planning to apply Early Decision to CAS next year, and I'd like to double major in mathematics and music.</p>

<p>SAT: 2290, 1580 CR+M (M:800, CR:780)
SAT II: World History: 720, Math 2: 800, I'm taking Physics and US History next month (fingers crossed)
GPA: 3.94
Rank: So far, I'm 45/~500 which is barely scraping the top 10%. However, this is based off freshman and sophomore years only, and I've been getting spectacular grades so far this year, so I'm safely assuming my rank will go up. I'm not sure by how much, though.
AP's: World Hist. (5) and Music Theory (5) in 10th grade.
This year I self studied US Hist, Stats, and APES. I'm hopeful for 4's and 5's, but you never know.
IB: I'm doing the full IB diploma, so I'm taking basically all IB courses this year and next year, except for AP BC Calc next year.</p>

<p>Extra Curriculars:
Jazz Band 9th-12th
Marching Band 9th-12th
Pit Orchestra 11th-12th
Music Honor Society 10th-12th

<p>Class rank seems low, but the 1580/1600 is a significant plus.</p>

<p>Yeah, I didn’t do so well my freshman year. I mean, I only have one B and one A- on my transcript, but my A’s are on the lower end. My gpa is decent, but my class rank isn’t stellar as a result. I’m really expecting to jump at least 10 or 20 in rank, but then again, maybe every one else is doing stellar as well. Do you really think my high test scores will compensate enough for my class rank for me to be a viable applicant?</p>

<p>It depends. How well has your HS done with Cornell in the past, and if it has done well, what are the typical GPAs / class ranks of the people who get in? (by the way, those are just questions for you to ponder, no need to spill personal information on a public internet forum.)</p>

<p>I should also add – applying ED will definitely help, as long as you can express your genuine interest in the programs offered at Cornell in an effective manner (i.e. don’t be cliche).</p>

<p>It will depend in part on what else you bring to the table. Excellent recommendations and essays would be a good start :)</p>

<p>Alright, thank you. My school sends about 4 or 5 kids to Cornell every year, though I think they’re usually in the top 5% in terms of class rank.</p>
