I would like to know my chances for penn state UP and Purdue for engineering
SAT: 1400
GPA: 3.45 (unweighted)
5 AP’s and 5 Honors classes
both apps submitted before priority deadline
checked off summer session for penn state
Good EC’s and essay
Purdue will be a reach for you with low GPA. You do know that Purdue’s Engineering ranks top 10 in the nation. From what I remember, average unweighted GPA for CS and FYE applicants is about 3.9. Your SAT seems to be ok, though.
I don’t know about Penn State, so I won’t comment on it, but Penn State will be lot easier than Purdue.
If you applied way before priority deadline for both Penn State and Purdue, since they both use rolling, then your chance may rise a lot, however.
@HardOREasy but my SAT is way over their 50 percentile with a 1440 (super scored) for purude. do you think that will cancel out the GPA? and yea i did apply in October to both these colleges.
One thing to note is, do not compare yourself to average students. Compare yourself with top students or at least those on 75th percentile. Being similar to or only slightly better than average won’t help you at all. I’m not sure where you got the 50th percentile data about Purdue, but if you got it from CDS Page C, then don’t always use that for comparison as that includes the information of those who got rejected and deferred most of the times. For the most accurate information google “(School Name) freshman profile,” which is based on solely accepted/admitted students. But don’t forget that the information from a school’s freshman profile won’t necessarily reflect the stats of Engineering students because what you will see is an overall data, not major-specific.
I do realize that you said your SAT is “way over their 50[th] percentile,” and it is certainly good. However, it is not good enough to offset your GPA weakness.
