Hey guys, I was just rejected Vanderbilt ED II. Emory has now become my first choice and am thinking maybe Emory has been a better fit for me all long. I haven't yet visited, but I have read an extensive amount of threads on this website. I was wondering what you guys think my chances are for Emory RD.

Recs from teachers I think are really good. Didn't see them though.

My Mid Year report is looking pretty good (All A's)

I have shown some demonstrated interest, but I haven't been able to visit. Do you guys think it's necessary if I really want to get in?

it’s gonna depend on demographics; Emory uses RD to fill in gaps in their class…i.e. if they have too many “males from NY” for example, waitlist…

check and see if kids from your HS have been accepted RD in the past few years (HS class of 2009 onward)

From my HS, two students have matriculated to emory in the past two years (one each year). Idk if that’s a lot or not. Also, I got an email today from the office of admission with the subject: “Hello From An Emory Freshman”. The freshman talked about his great experience so far. I was just thinking: why would they send me something like that? I already applied. They usually send that kind of stuff to entice you to apply. Maybe I’m just reading too much into it Hah. I would just really like to go.

I believe the one from last year was ED. Not sure about the one from two years ago. I would bet that there were other kids from my high school last year that got admitted RD but chose someplace else. My HS sends around 20-25 kids to Ivies a year.

I don’t. I will have to talk with to guidance counselor. Thanks a lot rodney. Btw, a girl from my class this year got in ED with SATs in the high 1900s. I have a just as rigorous, if not more rigorous program than she does. She may have more community service oriented things than me though.

Your stats are pretty good. Normally, I would say that you would get in. However, it is harder the get in regular decision than it is to get in ED.
