sunniva, your profile is solid for Williams: good grades and scores, international exposure, language skills, geographic diversity, artistic talent. If you are an ethnic Asian, more the better. Just make sure your essays are compelling and highlight whatever it is that makes you standout from the pack, like your Norwegian heritage or your artistic involvement.

Williams has a strong art studio department as well as world class art history and museums and they aggressively recruit artists. Have you visited? The art facility is excellent and the three museums that are on or near campus are an exceptional resource for art students.

You should plan on submitting slides of your work in an art portfolio. In addition to the instructions on Williams’ website -- http://www.williams.edu/admission/apply_appinstructions.php -- I’d suggest that you also submit an arts resume that includes a brief statement, a list of the courses taken plus grades (if good), awards, achievements, pertinent international travel and possibly an additional recommendation from an art instructor.

I think your chances are very strong, well above average. First, W. Virginia will help, as very few kids at Williams (or any other top N.E. school) come from there. Also, you have two very good, unusual hooks it seems -- and they happen to be perfectly distributed. One, in German, in an area where Williams has very few majors and so forth, and is probably looking for people with that type of aptitude, and another in perhaps Williams' strongest area, art, which the school is always looking to bolster. Plus, your numbers are stellar.

I would craft your application to focus on those two aspects, assuming you genuinely want to pursue both at the next level. And I second the suggestion to check out Williams amazing studio art facility and art department faculty -- second to none among non-research university / art schools, for sure. Plus you have the benefit of a being near North Adams, which has a thriving, ever-growing artistic community and lots of events supporting artists thanks to MassMoca, as well as the Clark and the graduate art history program. I don't know much about German at Williams (certainly MUCh smaller than art) so you'll want to investigate that carefully as well to make sure they have the kind of classes you are looking for, again, assuming you want to continue your studies. Good luck.
