Chances for RD?

Hello, I would like to see what my chances are of getting in RD. I applied on a whim because my guidance counselor told me they gave a good amount of financial aid. I have not been to visit and will likely not visit unless I get in, but I would like some initial impressions before my family begins to save to visit the campus. I know none of these opinions you provide me with mean anything, but I think they will help me feel more secure as I wait for what seems like forever. Anyway here is my information:

ACT: 31
GPA: 4.25 weighted/ 3.9 unweighted
Rank: N/a
Other stats:"Most rigorous" courses mostly honors and 5 AP's
Subjective: Lots of Leadership positions, 500+ hours of community services, various clubs, 3 jobs- tutoring, a summer job, and the coffee cart I founded at my school
Essays: Common App was good 8/10
Teacher Recs: Community service adviser 10/10, Math teacher/family friend: 10/10, AP Chem teacher 9/10
Counselor Rec: 10/10
Interview: We talked for an hour and a half and got along really well.
Location/Person: OH
School Type: Private
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Male

Thanks!

It’s very tough to get into this school ED. It’s even tougher RD. Your ACT is at the lower end of what was getting people in ED, which seemed to be a 33. Your 3.9/4.2 are, if you can believe this, ho-hum for Vandy this year. Your APs are lower end. Your ECs are terrific, the recs are very good, and the interview was promising. Vandy had so many apps ED that it looks as if they might not have been as holistic in their assessments as they would have liked to be. That probably won’t change for RD, and that means your ACT and GPA could matter more than your ECs and other strengths.

Does this help to give you some idea of your chances? Let Vandy hear from you. Go the extra mile. let them know how much you really want to go there and why you want to go there.

Don’t do any of these things, however, until you know how you’d pay for Vandy. It is one of the most generous schools, but the competition is extraordinary for those full tuition scholarships. It also has great non-merit aid, but your family’s ability to pay will still be a factor. Crunch the numbers. Good luck.
