Chances for Regular Decision

Anyway, my stats are:

SAT: 2080 (CR: 640 M: 730 WS: 710 -- i expect this composite to go up at LEAST 100 points on the October test)
ACT: 35 (writing scores haven't been released yet for June)
SAT-II: pending, but I'm expecting 710-750 Lit and 740-780 IIc
GPA: 3.85, and have taken the most demanding courses available to me (5 AP's on my schedule for next year, 1 Syracuse University course and 1 SUNY C.W. Post College Course)
i am white, although i am a second-generation israeli, and am a citizen of both the US and Israel (speak fluent hebrew)

a lot of more or less worthless clubs (i.e.: forced to take marching band as a club while in band, quite playing lacrosse after 3 years), however, high up position in my school's model UN club, won an outstanding delegate award at the University of Chicago's annual MUN session.

i play multiple instruments and recieved a perfect score on the highest level (6) at NYSSMA (actually, that was in 8th grade too haha), which is New York's musical achievement testing.

i have been selected for prestige in painting (although this was early in high school).

i have worked for all of high school at two different jobs, at least 10 hours a week.

i have interned for the presiding majority leader of the local legislator for the past year and intend to continue as well as help her with her campaign next year. (>50 hrs total)

i will have 2 or 3 quite good reccomendations from 2 or 3 teachers that know me quite well, as well as an additional reccomendation from the presiding officer of my county legislator.

i am a member of the national honor society as well as the national spanish honor society.

You'll have to get the SAT up at least 70 points to be looked at REgular DEcision. If I were you, being from New York, I'd take a look at UPenn, your scores are more up their alley. You'd definitely get in UPenn EA or ED.

What if I just send my ACT score?

If you took the ACT with the writing section, I am pretty sure it substitutes for the SAT I. You have an excellent ACT score. Find out more information at their website for admissions about their policy on ACT.

I took it with writing, but the only thing I'm afraid of is the adcom thinking that, as a New Yorker, not submitting the SAT means I have something to hide.

I don't think adcoms have the right to make assumptions about your SAT score simply from the fact that you didn't send it. You're definitely very accomplished, but I think what you lack is a specific focus or demonstrated interest in a field; your ECs are kind of all over the place. It kind of looks like you're interested in poli sci, but to me it doesn't really seem like a strong interest.

i can definitely see what you mean, but i guess i'll have to stress the amount of work i put into the little things i have, such as my campaign work with the legislator and the leadership in MUN.

anybody else?

A couple of things, I suspect the adcoms will take the highest of the ACT/SAT I scores. Your 35 is higher than your 2080 after the conversion. But you should ask them directly.

Additionally, Princeton requires 3 SAT II tests and you are only listing 2.

Good luck in your efforts.

Any other advice/comments/thoughts?

Thanks.

Won't they see your SAT score no matter what? There's no way to hide it

Well, I will retake, and I know I will do better, but nothing will reach my ACT score.

1370 in the old sat range.. um.. are you sure you wanna apply to Princeton? I mean, it would be a darn waste of money for you. I think you would be great at Cornell. You look like the typical eh.. well.. reject applicant for Princeton. Recommendation/internship at the county gov't thing is nowadays too common since a plenty of people have parental connections to the "important people."

Wait, do you have alumni connections? If so you might have a slight chance by going ED. I'd say even Cornell is your reach.. and matches for you would be somewhere around NYU, Tufts, Johns Hopkins level. Columbia's also a good ED Reach for you, since they look more into personal accomplishments..

I dunno.. i will stop my babbling now. If you think I am too harsh, please please ignore all I've said, because when I get asked about chances, I only give my opinion based on experience, and people get angry.. although they were the ones who had asked for advice in the first place..

O right, here's my 2 cents: raise the scores and you might stand a chance, and make sure to emphasize 2-3 of your primary passions (clubs/jobs whatever) so that the adcoms will remember you during "rounds": "hey, I wanna let that astro chick into the class of 2010" or "the pianist from Chile is really awesome! He even got a Bronze in the Physics Olympiad" ... or something that would stick out to the adcoms

Hope this helps.. :)

plushenko, please, I'm not one to get offended over the opinions of my peers; say what you want and say what you feel. however, that point you made is my trouble exactly; i do not know whether my ACT score (35/1580) will properly overshadow my SAT score (1370 + 710). if it does, i think my chances will be raised immensely.
