Chances for Rice, Columbia SEAS, Cornell, Dartmouth, Princeton (Deferred), Georgia Tech, Harvard

I applied Princeton EA, and was unfortunately deferred. I can almost guarantee it was because of my supplement essays, I rewrote them the night before and they didn't show ANY insight into who I am and what I offer for Princeton. I keep kicking myself for screwing myself like that but I have to move on and make sure I am better prepared for my RD decision apps. However, is there anything I could do to make sure I do not look so bland when Princeton looks at me again for RD?

Here are my stats, I am wondering how my chances are for getting into Rice (engineering), Columbia SEAS (engineering), Cornell (engineering), Dartmouth (engineering), Stanford (engineering), Georgia Tech (engineering), Harvard (engineering), and Emory (business)

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and respond, it means a LOT!! (:

@CocoMojo13. I am not surprised you were deferred at Princeton looking at your extracurricular awards/prowess.

There is one school up there that you are applying to that is tops for engineering and equestrian…even though they do not officially “recruit” like in the other sports (since it remains a club sport)…they DO look for TOP equestrians. You may have weakened your position with Stanford by not applying REA with your sports background (depending on how many applied in the early round and got in already). And I would not be surprised Princeton may have deferred you thinking even if you were accepted…you would attend “another” school that “fits” your background…

http://web.stanford.edu/group/set/cgi-bin/wordpress/team/

http://web.stanford.edu/group/set/cgi-bin/wordpress/roster/

If I were you…I would try and contact the equestrian team’s coach about your interest in participating if accepted…because as I see it now…without this (equestrian awards/passion)…you would just be considered another typical applicant. Hope this helps.

@gravitas2 Do you think there is a way of showing Princeton how interested I am in their school? I love Princeton and had I gotten the acceptance, there’s no doubt in my mind that I would be going there next year. Other than that, do you think I look like a good applicant to those other schools? I’m going to contact Stanford team, thanks for the info!

“ACT: 34 - I know it’s low…”

Let’s just take a moment… Really? Wow that’s terrible.

It’s not low in general, it’s a great score, but for schools that want perfect scores, it’s off. @OrangeAndWhite‌

Good chance at GT. The others are high reaches.

Yeah i got a 34 on ACT also which is not what I expect… I thought I had a 35 or 36. I don’t remember making any mistakes. Nevertheless, I read somewhere that the average ACT scores for HYSP are 31-34 - not that bad. Being first in your class all 4 years is really good, i am sure you will get into one of the ivies you applied to. Good luck!
Rice - Low Reach/High Match
Columbia SEAS - Reach
Cornell - Low Reach
Princeton - Reach
Georgia Tech - Match
Harvard-Reach

It’s so awesome you are a champion horse rider.

@aNerdyGangster‌ Thank you

@Chanceme31415‌ will do! And yeah, I think we will be fine with our ACT, it’s honestly luck sometimes

The ivies still prefer the SATs as they are more difficult.

You’ll find a high match in rice, the ivys for the most part are reaches for everyone, yourself included, so we can only guess at most.

Chance me back?

@ricck1 I figured they do, too bad though :stuck_out_tongue:

I am also a senior and much less qualified than you, so I hope you get into Rice!

@epan1997 Thank you (: are you applying there as well?? (:

@CocoMoJo13 Yes! It’s my top school!

@epan1997 Good luck!! I’m going for an overnight visit in a week and a half. So excited!!

@CocoMojo13‌ You’re so lucky! I can’t afford to travel all the way to Houston to have one. Let me know how it goes!

@epan1997 IT. WAS. INCREDIBLE. You can message me if you want to know more. I fell in love.

I think you’re a really strong applicant and you’ll probably get into at least one top school. If you don’t I’ll have to call BS and tell him that the ivy admissions process is a joke.
