Chances for Rice University

Hi, I am a junior in high school and I really want to go to Rice University.
Currently, I have a 3.86 gpa but this semester my classes were really hard and I was strugging a lot so I’m getting a 3.5 gpa. By the end of junior year, I will have 8 APs (NSL - 5, Calc BC - 5, Computer Science - 4, Biology, Micro, Lang, World, and Statistics) and 2 internships and 285 hours of community service and an SAT score of around 2200. Hopefully I will be able to improve my semester gpa next semester and I’ll get at least 4s on my APs. I was wondering if this one semester could really hurt my chances into getting into Rice. Also I got most of my hours in middle school so I was wondering if that could affect anything too.
Thanks

:((( what can I do so that it’s within my range?

wait I meant my overall gpa is not 3.5, just the semester is. So I’ll probably end up around 3.7? Does that change anything?

3.7 is a big jump so yes it will change a lot.
Rice is going to be a reach regardless meaning you will need for formulate a good list of colleges to apply to other than Rice. Look for match schools and safeties. Since you’re only a Junior, it’s great getting a headstart. If you need help will college search, let me know and message me.

Here’s what I have to say though. Your top choice is ALWAYS going to change. At the end of sophomore year, I was dead set on UC Berkeley. At the end of junior year, I had a desire for Vanderbilt. The next thing you know, it is a month before college apps are due and I take a trip to Rice University for an overnight. I fell in love, applied ED, and was accepted.

The bottom line is to focus on your college search more.
Applying ED will greatly increase your chances, but make sure you’re really deadset on Rice before you apply.

Also, make sure you do more than internships and community service.
Service is always great and if you break 500 anywhere, it will show a lot of commitment as well.

Make sure you reach out to be leaders of clubs at school.
You’ll be golden.

With all that, the last step is essays.
