He sounds pretty awesome. Does he plan on doing ROTC?

Thank you for your nice thoughts! He is thinking about ROTC as well as the Naval Academy, but still keeping all the options open. It’s just so hard to know. Thank you for your help though! Best of luck!

@OP - if you’d like to shoot me a PM, I’d be glad to offer any input on MIT, service academies, & NROTC. I’m a WP grad (who spent a semester as an exchange cadet to the Naval Academy back long ago) and my two older sons both were accepted to USNA. My oldest is now a 2/c at the Air Force Academy, and the next one is in NROTC at MIT (rising sophomore). USNA was his first choice before he got accepted to MIT (he’d applied to ROTC as a backup but it ended up being a better option for him after his visits). I’m also a liaison officer for WP, and as I’m sure you know, competition for the academies has gotten far more fierce over the past 4 years so it’s really a good idea to consider other options as well. I’d be a bit concerned about your son’s lack of athletics for any academy - I’m really not sure how they view fencing. Obviously not as critical for MIT, but something like 93% of USNA mids were varsity athletes and probably half of those were team captains. What is his race? Unfortunately that will play some factor for MIT and a LOT for an academy as well. Not trying to sound discouraging - despite people telling us here and on Service Academy Forums how hard it is to get into top colleges/academies as a non-minority or non-recruited-athlete, both of my older two got into USAFA and USNA and the middle and youngest got into MIT, despite being white males! Just let me know if there’s anything I can do to help.
