Chances for Ross (Match or Reach?)

Currently a Junior from the Chicago area. The fact that I'm an Asian middle class female may hinder my chances. I'm interested in business and particularly the Ross school. I'm open/appreciative to other suggestions about schools with good business programs.

ACT: 34 (will take again)
SAT: 2200 (will take again)
GPA: 3.925 unweighted, 5.016 unweighted (it's a wierd weighting system)
No rank at my school starting this year, but last year I was 1st (or at least tied for 1st), but did get two B's but probably still in top 1% (out of close to 800 students in my grade)

AP Tests:World History-5
Computer Science - 4
US History - 5
As a junior I'm going to take AP Lang, AP Macro, AP Gov't, AP Stat, AP Physics B, and AP Calc BC

SAT subject: US history - 800
I plan to take Math 2 and Chemistry

Freshman:
Honors - Bio, English, Algebra 2, Critical Thinking/ Gifted,
AP World
Spanish 2
All A/A-

Soph:
Honors - Chem, English, Trig/Calc A, Critical Think/ Gifted (it's a two year class)
AP - Computer Science and US History
Spanish 3
All A/A-

Junior:

Spanish 4
For first semester Physics and Calc I got B+'s and the rest are A's

Senior (going to take):
AP - Lit, Psyc, Bio, Chem, Spanish
Multivariable Calc (technically a college class at U of I so not really AP)

Extracurriculars (I feel like this may be my downfall):
NHS
Writer's Workshop
Volunteering at a nursing home
Volunteering at a hospital
Piano (10 yrs + AIM level 10
Hook? - Past two years I went to China and taught students English

You’re definitely competitive for preadmit but admission is still very competitive for almost all applicants. With about 30% females at Ross I would think being female could help.

What is preadmit? Is it different from regular acceptance?

[BBA - Stephen M. Ross School of Business](<a href=“Bachelor of Business Administration | Michigan Ross”>Bachelor of Business Administration | Michigan Ross)
I should have said Preferred Admit. But, take a look at the link (toward bottom of the page) at both the Preferred and Regular Admit links.

Basically applicants to Umich that know they want to go into Ross when they first apply, apply to Ross as a Preferred Admit. If accepted, they will still enter Ross as a Sophomore as long as they achieve a minimal GPA as a Freshman. Only a select number are accepted to Ross on a Preferred basis. Those gaining Preferred admission will spend their freshman year in LSA or COE. Most gain entrance applying during the Winter term of their freshman year and start as Sophomores as well.

Anyway, take a look at the links and you’ll understand further.

You are a strong applicant for preferred admission, but it is a very competitive program. It has about a 15% acceptance rate out of those who are already accepted into Michigan. The average ACT is a 34 and GPA 3.9, I believe. Preferred admission would guarantee you a spot in the Ross business school assuming you maintain a 3.3 GPA your freshman year and complete an english, math, and economics course.

If you aren’t pre-admitted, you can also apply your freshman year. It is competitive but not impossible, a 3.7+ GPA with solid ECs and essays will likely get you in.

If you’re set on business, I would consider looking at Virginia, Cornell, New York University, and Indiana University (safety).
