chances for scholarship $$$

thank you in advance for your input!

I attended Vandy PTY in 7th grade, and fell in love with the school; however, financial aid is what will really make or break the deal. Otherwise, I will apply to Duke binding ED, and Vandy will have no chance :(

I'd say you have a decent shot at getting some merit money. Vandy will also meet 100% of your demonstrated financial need. I must ask though, if financial aid is such a huge concern, why are you applying ED to Duke?

My parents make decent income, and I am an only child. I don't think that I will qualify for much, if any, financial aid. $50,000 a year is a lot of money, and would cause dramatic changes in my family's lifestyle (probably have to sell our water-front house). However, my parents would live in a card board box in order for me to attend my top choice school. This does not seem fair, and any merit money is definitely appreciated!

I love Duke, and am not expecting any sort of merit or financial aid from there. Both Duke and Vandy would be excellent choices for a future medical career, and are the only colleges I really have my heart set on. Applying to Duke ED, however, would greatly increase my chances of being accepted. My senior year would be a lot less stressful as well.

And to be honest, Duke beats Vanderbilt without any financial aid. SORRY!

You're not seriously considering applying to Duke ED, are you? You say yourself that your parents would have to live in a cardboard box for you to attend a private school without financial aid or scholarships.

I would suggest applying regular decision and trying for merit money at some decent schools like Vanderbilt. If you have to pay for medical school, it would be very wise to save for that instead of splurging on undergrad. Vanderbilt and schools like it can take you to any medical school you like if you focus and do well.

I totally agree. However, Duke and Vandy are practically the same price w/o financial aid. Sooo that's why i would love to be chanced for merit aid! I admit i am a little obsessed with Duke, and do not want to miss that opportunity if I won't receive a scholarship from Vandy. I already qualify for 100% bright futures for Fl schools like UF, so that's always a safety.

She didn't say her parents would have to live in a cardboard box. She said they WOULD live in a cardboard box to send her to her dream school. She said they might have to sell their waterfront house to finance her education.
