I'm definitely applying to Tulane in the fall. I love everything about the school but question whether the tuition is worth it, especially compared to other schools of higher academic quality. So if anyone could give me some kind of idea as to which scholarships I might be able to receive, I would really appreciate it!

Essays will be excellent, recommendations should be pretty good.

Your scores look like they would be in the range for consideration for the Scholar's scholarship which last year I believe was 24K a year. Also, there is a DHS scholarship which is full tuition that is a separate application due by Dec 15th. The other scholarship requires no additional application. You will be automatically considered for it when you submit your application.

Be sure to look for the application in the Fall that is free and gives you a quick-turnaround decision that is non-binding. The sooner you submit the more likely to meet the quick turnaround timeframe. The large number of applications last year resulted in slower decisions for those applying later and also applications were cut off in early January.

I'd be pretty surprised if you got less than 24k a year with your sat and act scores. You'd probably have a decent shot at the dean's honor scholarship as well, although it isn't as clear cut. It requires a project and is pretty selective. They seemed to pick kids with the most creative projects rather than the highest test scores for the dean's, so start thinking about that early if you're really interested in it.

I'd reiterate hovermom's advice: Apply early. You should be among the scholarship honorees, but it would be best to be on their radar in the fall. Bbecause of the onslaught of applications this past year, many qualified students weren't accepted, were waitlisted, and even stellar students may not have received as much money had they applied sooner. (At least that's what I heard anecdotally.)

It's hard to know what next year will look like, but I'd assume Tulane will be at least as competitive as this year was.

All the info above is right on. The top scholarship that doesn't require a separate application is the Distinguised Scholars (I believe that is the name). This past year it waas $24K. The other ones were 17K and 21K. If you happen to be in Louisiana, there are som ehuge scholarships for instate students. Check their website for more info on this. Wil you be a NMF?? They give $2k/yr for NMF as well.

The above posters are spot on. Apply early for sure, and give a lot of thought to the Dean's Scholarship application before you fill it out 'cause the award is very selective. But do it definitely. Good luck!

Thank you to everyone who replied! I'm definitely planning on applying as early as possible because, especially with the chance for a big scholarship, Tulane is one of my top choices.

apply early, you will most likely get a decent offer, and if you are elligible to apply fir the DHS(it will tell you in your award letter) then go for it!!

That Dean's Scholarship application is really confusing. First it says to do anything you want in that box on the second page, then it talks about dvds, photos and tapes...I'm not sure what they're actually looking for. What's up with that?

Do whatever you want to do. I believe they are just telling you how to handle photos, tapes, etc if you send them. My S fit his project in the box, with a short explanation. Bingo-- full tuition scholarship! Yipee!!!

you are at least 100 points higher on your SAT for the mid-range Tulane student, and at least 200-250 points higher if they count all 3 sections. I'd be shocked if you did not get the 24K scholarship.. at least.
