Chances for Scholarships

I thought National Buckeye, Maximus, and Trustees were all automatic based on stats. However, now I see that those are also competitive. Do I have a good chance to get national buckeye+Maximus? I thought about Morrill but I don’t have something good to write for that essay which seems to hold the most weight. Also, are my stats too low for Eminence? My SAT is a little low for it and I’m not even sure if tOSU superscores for merit considerations. I will be applying for Business.

I think you have a very good chance for maximus. New guidelines for 2017 are out and 1450 is the new SAT cutoff. I’d recommend finding other schools you like that would also be affordable, just to be safe. Eminence is a reach, only because even if they do superscore you are slightly below the typical recipient. But you never know!

Of course, I don’t really know, but I have been trying to figure this out myself for my DS with similar stats.

@VryCnfsd Thanks for the update, I was waiting for the update with new SAT criteria. Do you know if OSU superscores for scholarship considerations? I emailed OSU and I guess I contacted the wrong department or something because they said they didn’t know. If they do superscore then I’m only 10 points below average which I think shouldn’t be an issue.

My D contacted tOSU before they updated the scholarship page and they stressed that for Eminence there are no minimums. They do not superscore. It’s posted on their admissions page.

@itsgettingreal17 I know there are no minimums but I don’t think its a good sign being below average on the scholarship recipient stats. Even without superscore I have a 1480 which I don’t think is that much lower than the average.

You have a shot, I just don’t know how strong of a shot. You have a strong profile. Lots of leadership, which they like to see. Good luck!

@itsgettingreal17 I don’t have a performing/visual arts class which is apparently a requirement. Will I get rejected from even regular OSU because of this? At my in states they have requirements for stuff like foreign language but many people get in without meeting those requirements at my school. I haven’t taken a performing/visual arts class as its not a requirement at my school and there is such a limited opportunity(one guitar class and one choir type class I think) that I never added one to my schedule. Will this be detrimental to my app?

You should contact your admissions rep as it seems to be a minimum requirement for admissions.

@class0f2017 I don’t have one either. I asked that question on another website and the responses all said, “no, it doesn’t matter. I didn’t have one either.”

@almostdonewithhs Did you have a special circumstance and write something or just not have one? Do you think it could affect scholarship chances?

I’m hoping my course rigor can make up for it.
