Chances for School of Business

My brother has an interest in the business school at Uconn. He is currently a junior in high school and I’m just wondering what your thoughts are on his chances and what he could do over the next 2 years to improve them.

white male from a $500,000+ income bracket
currently ranks 9/215 in his class
GPA is a 4.38/5
took AP US history as a sophomore and got a 4
Junior year schedule is honors english, honors prelcalc, AP psych, AP bio, spanish 4 honors and marketing ( we have limited APs at our high school and it is really not possible to take more than 3 a year due to block scheduling)
scored a 183 on PSATs as sophomore (will take SATs in fall)
scored a 680 on the history subject test
2 sport athlete
volunteered to keep score at children’s basketball games
member of business club
he got invited to apply for NHS and is doing so currently

any advice is appreciated

a 500,000+ income bracket?!? thats crazy

1-2 leadership positions on his resume would be good. It would especially be beneficial to have something that has leadership responsibilities. There are a lot of captains of sports teams and most captains are the captain because they are good at their sport and not because they provide tangible leadership qualities. Try to find a leadership opportunity where there is a high level of responsibility and initiative. For example, have him organize an event where he is coordinating and training people. It could be a volunteer position or he could do something entrepreneurial.

@sportsman5 thanks so much your advice is very appreciated!

Another thing to do is reach out to alumni to get insights about the school. I’m not sure if there is room on the application to show he has demonstrated interest on this level. I know it is something that top MBA programs like to see, but I’m not sure if undergrad admissions care about showing interest and initiative in terms of attending events at UConn and talking to alumni. You can reach out to alumni on linkedin or call the UConn school of business to get names of individuals who may be interested in talking to prospective students about their experience at UConn. If there is no available list of people who are willing to talk to students, then please post that here and I will work to put that together. I don’t work for the university, but I am an active alumni.
