my friend got into berkeley engineering so i would presume it is more competitive than ucla biology. you can compare with his stats. 2200 sat. 800 math 2c and chemistry. 4.2 uc gpa. decent ecs.
my friend got ED johns hopkins with a scholarship, his stats were 36 act, 4.0 gpa. amazing ecs

you’re friend should get in

I think that your friends stats are genuinely impressive. This is what I see happening:
Harvard: low reach
Stanford: reach (though probably still a great chance)
UPenn: match/low reach
Duke: match
Columbia: low reach
UCLA: match
JHU: match

Honestly, you’re one of the best applicants I’ve seen. If you’re essays are great, you’ll probably get into all of these schools.

Chance back: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1728527-chance-an-international-student.html#latest

Harvard, Stanford, Columbia: All reaches, even for the geniuses. They love their statistics, yield rates and all the manipulative games they play with deserving students. Columbia is more accepting out of the three of these.
UPenn: High Match. They’re the most “accepting” Ivy for students with stellar stats.
Duke: I’d go with a match.
UCLA: Match
JHU: Match. I think JHU will be the best for you if he does not make it to the Duke or the Ivies.

Most of these school love their numbers, and He’s got them sorted. He’s got his course load sorted. He’s got the awards and the significant achievements in and out of school. Somewhat like the typical poster child of all the top places. Please chance me back now!
