Hi! First post here,

I am a junior going into my senior year in Arizona. I am trying to figure out what my chances are to get into SDSU.

For all three years I have only got 2 C's (both in my Spanish class). I have only taken two AP classes (history) and got an A in world history and a B in US history.

My SAT scores are
Critical Reading: 550
Math: 400
Writing: 480
and I got an 8 on my essay.

Currently after my junior year I have a 3.50 weighted GPA and a 3.38 GPA.

EC: I was a captain of my varsity volleyball team for 2 years and I was in NHS for a year.

And this may or may not help, but I'm a Mexican-American, first person to go to college in my family and I would be transferring out of state to go to California.

Any input is appreciated :)
Thanks

In 2011, the 25th/75th percentiles for SDSU were CR:480/580 and Math:500/610, meaning your Critical Reading score is good enough, but your math isn’t. They don’t care about the writing section. I can provide more feedback if you post your full high school schedule with grades. I’ve been researching about SDSU admissions for a few months, and most sources consistently tell me that SDSU either doesn’t care about extra curriculars, or places very little emphasis on them. Your GPA is below average, most admitted applicants range from 3.6-3.8, but because you took two APs that likely won’t weigh you down. I hate to be a dream killer but your chances don’t look good. I suggest taking the ACT, and taking an SAT class to boost your score. If you could bring that combined math and critical reading score above 1100, your chances would be much greater.

Freshman year:
Health / PE: A
Algebra 1-2: A
Language Arts 1-2: A
Biology: B
Information Tech: A
Spanish 1-2: C

Sophomore Year:
Geometry: B
Language Arts 3-4: A
Chemistry: B
Accounting: A
Spanish 3-4: C
AP World History: A

Junior Year:
Algebra 3-4: B
Language Arts 5-6: A
Forensic Science: A
AP US history: B
Sociology / architectural drafting: A

And if this helps I’m taking two AP classes for my senior year. AP Gov & AP Environmental Science.

SDSU and in fact all CSU schools determine admission 95% on GPA+Test Scores. They won’t take essays or recommendations, and really don’t care about ECs unless you’re an Olympian or cured cancer. Your GPA is hard to boost, but the SAT can be worked on. Your best bet is trying to get the SAT above SDSU’s 75th percentile by working hard all summer. Because it’s a calculation, a way above average SAT for the school can overcome the low GPA. You also have an upward trend, meaning your grades got better over the years. That helps. Right now SDSU’s a reach, but with some work on the SAT you might have a shot.
