I am looking to get into the Naval, Coast Guard, or Air Force Academies. Im in my junior year of high school.
I have taken AP European and American History with a B in both. I have also taken AP Bio as well as Pre-AP Chem with an A in both. I am in Pre-AP Calc, getting an A. I am also taking AP computer science, with an A. I take honors english and French classes getting A's and B's.
My SAT scores are:
CR-610
Math-710
Writing-590
I played varsity hockey my freshman and sophomore years, and am now on the cross country team. I am also captain of the sailing team and started my school's computer science club. Do you think I will get in? What should I do to improve my chances?
Thanks

Have you a recommendation from a congressman, senator, or the Vice President of the US? You need one of those.

I have not applied for one yet. I’m still a junior

Anyone have any advice?

What are your matches/safeties? Navy, Air Force or Coast Guard are reaches for anyone, even with the required nomination.

I have safeties in mind, but I’m just wondering about thoughts about my chances of getting into these schools based on others experience…etc.?

First off, you are a junior so you still have some time. This all pertains to the Air Force Academy. From what I can see, your grades are a little below average, your SAT scores are okay/competitive but you may want to take them again to try to boost your CR/W. USAFA looks at your unweighted GPA only. While they consider AP/Honors, a 4.0 unweighted with 3 AP classes looks better then a 3.5 unweighted with 6 AP classes. Basically, you should have about a 3.8 or above unweighted with a schedule of high level courses. The Average SAT scores are CR-640 M-670 W-640…Maybe take the ACT to see if you do better…There are several things the Air Force Academy wants in cadets…The main thing is a dedication to service: you need to demonstrate a passion for serving others through community service/volunteering. Another key trait they expect future cadets to possess is leadership potential…You must want to lead others, and show you have experience. Furthermore you must be in good physical shape (see CFA standards). Additionally, a skill that would be wise to practice at is interviewing, during the candidate phase, you will be required to undergo an interview with your ALO, also interviews are common for senator/congressional nominations. In sum…Get your grades up, figure out the reason you want to go to the air force academy (if it is not to serve your country, it might not be the right place for you) and try to take on leadership roles. TBH the service academies are unpredictable in regards to admission. I hope this helps…i can possibly answer any other questions you have.
