Chances for some universities?

So I really want to Major in Computer science and have a job in that field. I looked at a list of best computer science schools and wrote down ones where I think I have a chance with.

Keep in mind I'm in New York and most of these colleges are out of state. Also if you guys know any great computer science schools that I can get into that would be great!

Here are my stats

Low income immigrant. Caucasian male.

1970 SAT 730 Math 650 CR 580 WR
Took it again. Results are coming in soon. Expecting to break 2000.

Lacking ECs
Night Manager of a fast food place.
Teaching myself programming

3.1 GPA

Here are the schools

University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
University of Wisconsin Madison
University of Maryland
University of Massachusetts
Ohio state university
Rutgers New Brunswick
Stony Brook

Whoops wrong forum sorry. I will repost to the right forum.

Public universities generally do not give the best need-based financial aid to out-of-state students. Even if they offer financial aid to cover some the in-state costs, they may not cover any of the difference between in-state and out-of-state rates. That difference alone can be $20K or more per year.

Trying plugging your family’s financial data into the online net price calculators for some of those schools. According to Kiplinger’s data (which may be at least 1 year out of date) the cost to attend UMCP at OOS rates, after average need-based aid, is about $32K/year. According to UMCP’s 2012 Common Data Set, their average scholarship and grant award was about $7K/year. On average, they only met about 66% of demonstrated need for those students awarded aid. This average may be even lower for OOS students.

So I just stick with stony brook?

You could check out a private school like Clarkson, which after aid may be cheaper than Maryland or Wisconsin. However, in-state public universities are likely to be among your most affordable options.

The universities you named will not be affordable since they’re out of state for you ie, no financial aid and high OOS costs.
Look into: NYIT, Cobbleskill, Dehli, wpi, stevens, rit, union, clarkson, SD school of Mining and Technology, Science and Technology University of Missouri, Milwaukee school of engineering, NYC College of Technology.
Stony Brook is going to be a reach, as would Bing, Albany, and Geneseo (this last one wouldn’t be the best for you though, plus, their average GPA is 3.8).

Are all those schools good computer science schools?

They’re solid schools (some more so than the others). SD School of Mining and Tech has a good reputation, employers recruit there, and it may be about the same cost as a SUNY. Look at all these schools quickly because scholarship deadlines or application deadlines may be soon (or already passed).
There are not many schools that have good financial aid for a 3.1 GPA so your choices are somewhat restricted.

In NY State, the following CS programs are ABET accredited and the colleges should be within range for you:
CCNY (reach), CUNY CSI (match+has residence halls if you can’t commute), Iona (match), RIT (reach), Brockport (safety), Syracuse (reach). City Tech and NYIT are probably your best bets though.
in New Jersey, ABET accredited cs programs in solid schools where you have a chance at admission and financial aid could include: Fairleigh Dickinson, NJIT.
Further away, check out Kettering, UMD-BC, Wentworth.
And I think that’s about it with your stats, keeping in mind you’ll need a lot of financial aid.
Check them out one by one (go to their website, fill out the “request info form”).
