I’m not sure about how competitive my application is for universities in the UK. I want to apply for Business or International Relations. I’m looking at St. Andrews, Edinburgh, Durham and (maybe) Oxbridge but the last one is a stretch I think.
AP Scores:
Psychology 5
World History 5
Biology 5
Language 5
Human Geo 5
GPA: 3.89
SAT Score: 2130
Subject tests:
World History 790
Chinese 700
Math II 660 (going to try getting that one up)
I also am fluent in Russian and am okay in Chinese.
I know they probably don’t look at EC’s but if it helps I’m captain of the Swim team, and president of a charity club and VP of NHS.
Assuming a reasonable Personal Statement & Rec, St Andrews should be a safety and Edinburgh and Durham are both likely (even more so if you choose business, which is an easier admit than IR).
Be aware that Psych & Human Geo are 2nd tier (‘B’) APs, and you can only count either the AP OR SATII for World HIstory. Bio won’t hurt, but won’t be relevant and your Math SAT II would be a problem for Oxbridge for an Economics course. Still, with World, Language & Chinese you have most of what you would need for most courses, though it’s thin for Oxbridge.
Oxford doesn’t have either business or IR- you would have to do something like Economics + Management for business, and History + Politics or PPE for IR. Cambridge has the Human, Social and Politcs tripos for IR; for business it would be applying to transfer in to Management after 2 years on another course. Those are all extra-competitive courses (even by Oxbridge standards). Oxford requires it’s own tests (taken in November) for those courses, as well as some graded work submitted. Cambridge is variable by college, but there is likely to be a requirement for tests and/or graded work.
Thanks that’s really helpful!
