Chances for Stanford as International Applicant

Hi there,

I am a Canadian student in Grade 11. I am doing fairly well in school and would love the opportunity to study at Stanford. Since it is in the heart of Silicon Valley and I would like to pursue Computer Science, Stanford would be a dream come true. The only thing lying in my way is the admission. Since I am Canadian, I have to apply as an international student, I was wondering what the Percentage of International Applicants that get accepted are.

Also I am currently in the IB program, would the be viewed as different from AP to colleges? In Canada, specifically the city I reside in, there are much more IB schools.

Final question, what extracurricular activities would improve my chances at a top tier College. Like Statnford, MIT, Berkeley or an Ivy League? I am currently on a ‘Varsity’ Basketball team, and volunteer for a big organization. I feel like I could do more though, and if it has a chance of making me stand out, it’s definetly worth my shot. I have the 4.0 GPA, I scored a 2380 on my SAT, will do ACT and Subject test. And I believe I will be able to get a perfect score if I do my SAT for the second time. Apparently good grades aren’t enough, which is why I’m looking to do more extracurricular activities.

Grateful for any responses

Do something that you would like to do. Nice score and you have an excellent GPA. Don’t take the SAT, if you get rejected, it won’t be for your SAT score. No one has a spot secure with Stanford. Nearly 7% or 8% percent of the admitted students are international. I hope you can get your dream school. You have worked hard but don’t be disappointed if you don’t get in. There are great schools waiting for you.
