Personal information:
My father is a PhD, my mother has her masters, my older brother is enrolled in UCLA as a freshman this fall, and I have 2 other younger brothers (I'm the only girl). I am second generation (My mom and dad were born in Taiwan and China, respectively). I will not be applying for financial aid, though I may apply for some scholarships. (Family income 200k+)

Teacher recs: AP United States History, AP Calculus BC. I am close with both teachers and they know me well.
Counselor recs: My counselor is unfamiliar with students as our class size is so large, so I am unsure if she can provide me with a good recommendation

You should have no problem getting into any of the UCs (UCLA/UCB will be matches, rest safeties).

The rest are of course reaches, but you’re about as competitive as anyone.

We’d need to know class rank to really give odds.

Unless you’re val or sal, as an ORM from an overrepresented state, with average scores for these schools, HYPS will be very, very tough. Even if you are val or sal, without raising CR and math and a small act of god they are unlikely.

I think you’re in at the UCs and that you have a chance at MIT and Caltech because you’re female.

I’m neither valedictorian nor salutatorian-- my school doesn’t rank, but I’d take a stab at top 10%… our school is very competitive and (supposedly) well known among the better colleges.
So, should I retake the SAT? CR and Math were both below average for the one sitting I did

It really depends. While Troy is a good high school, it’s not Andover and being just top 10% there is going to make an ivy or peer hard. Schools know where you rank, very accurately in fact from schools like yours that they get lots of applications from. There are a ton of highly qualified Asian applicants from there and other top CA schools all applying to the same colleges, and they are your competition.

Unless you love the UCs, I’d add some schools to the list between them and the privates currently on it. If you do love the UCs, your existing scores are fine.

Did you enjoy the bug project?

In at UC’s, chances at others are decent.

YOu’re in the UC for sure. Ivy and Stanford are hit and miss. Most applicants have similar credentials like yours, and their parents don’t make 200k+. Good luck

Good shot everywhere.
But your UW is a hit or a miss for Mit, harvard, and stanford.

Your piano awards bear a LOT of weight. Despite your mediocre numbers, I think your piano-status will get you into HYPS. Congratulations on being a world-renown pianist.

Your app is very…Asian. XD I think science + piano is about as stereotypical as it gets–you aren’t a premed, are you? But really, if your piano level is as high as it looks to be, I think you have a good shot at all of these schools. That’s the kind of exceptional talent for which exceptions to the rule are made.

There are no guarantees, though, so I would consider finding some schools you love that are a notch or two below HYPSM–some of the other Ivies, or schools like Chicago, Duke, Northwestern, Emory, Rice…you get the point.

despite the “typical asian” student vibe, this absolutely amazes me (youve played in carnegie hall!?! O_O). make sure your personality & uniqueness come through in your applications (especially your essay). best of luck

You’re so exceptionally talented in music, but in all honesty your Sat scores, gpa, and extracurriculars are not all that worthy of HYPSM for being an Asian. I’m really curious as to why you didn’t apply to Carnegie Hall for a music major.

Good at UCs, high reach for others. Good Luck!

U are definately not a high reach, i wud say low reach to High Match

People are very unaware of what it really takes to get into those top schools. You by no means need 2300+ SAT and National Awards. How many people have application like those (not many). Those are jus overqualified people, ur app is already highly competitive for top schools. Congrats - u will get into one of the top.
