I am a senior shooting for Stanford and MIT. I already got into Columbia, UMich and UCLA so basically I'm set (although I was denied by Caltech). But still, I'm curious what my chances are for Stanford, MIT, Chicago and Cornell.

Right... sorry I did not make it clear. I did not apply ED to Columbia but I got a very likely letter, electronic and paper, and a phone message, so I kind of assume I got in.

Nice job on Columbia. I would say you would be in for Cornell and Chicago if you got into Columbia. MIT and Stanford is up in the air, but better than average chances

Also SAT Scores:
Math 800
Physics 800
Literature 710

I could've gotten an 800 on Chem if I took it but somehow I chose to take Lit and got a 710, lol. I just like literature, once wrote a novel but never got it published...

Hey we are so similar!!! My SAT score matches yours PERFECTLY, and I did all your clubs [FBLA, peer tutoring, MATH<3] except I don't play Sax

Also i only took those 2 AP's as well. My UW GPA is a 3.9, XC varsity 4 years

Don't worry if you got in Columbia you're set. You probably didn't get in Caltech b/c you live too close [CAli], i might have a shot since i'm NJ.

Stanford- reach
MIT-low reach
Cornell-high match
Chicago- don't know much about since i didn't apply

MIT just rejected me...
Well, feeling pretty nasty right now but as time passes by I'll get better, hopefully.
There's still Stanford though, not much of a chance now but really really really hope I get in.

Columbia liked what they saw and that's a good read on how the others with similar standards will view your application. It'm my theory that they send likely letters to those they hope not to lose to HYPS. Good chance at all.

The only complicating factors are on your being an international if you need financial aid.

Thank you hmom5. That's very heartening. Fortunately I have no need for financial aid :)

My college advisor told me a very credible reason for my early acceptance into Columbia was my essay, which he said was the best he'd read for a while, and it was made more amazing provided that I am an international student. Also he mentioned that in my essay I listed some of the books I'd read (Faulkner, Steinbeck, Pynchon, Vonnegut, Camus, etc.) and he said he'd never seen any international student read books like these before. He said Columbia really put a lot of weight on reading.

But of course, the same thing that works for Columbia might not work for other colleges.
