I also come from a school that is ranked in the ~top 50 best highschools in America (Newsweek) if that makes a difference. My top choice is Stanford, and I'll apply to it early action. Any feedback would be appreciated!

More specifically my list of schools in order of preference are:

Stanford (EA)
Princeton
Yale
UPenn
Cornell
Duke
Rice
UCLA
A couple of safeties

In at Stanford and probably all those schools, as long as you write good essays.

Stanford along with the Ivies are all reaches. This is simply the nature of such prestigious institutions. Imo, your application is definitely competitive. Duke, Rice and UCLA should be matches. Ensure your essays are perfect or near so.

Good luck! You’ve worked hard. Excellent. :)

Your probably in, with URM status.

you got a good chance, probabaly wayy better than me.
You got “good” sat, you patented stuff, URM, legacy, and lots of successful science stuff.
the 10 handicap golf is you only blemish lol besides your not “perfect score SAT”

Thanks for the encouragement guys! I feel a little less worried now about my chances.

@SciMan Yeah I guess I have a few ‘hooks’. But why is a 10 handicap in golf a blemish? I thought it was a lowish handicap, especially for a relatively young/inexperienced player. Usually score ~82 on a 72 for par course. I suppose it’s no where near the more competitive people, especially those that are on golf teams. Does that mean I shouldn’t mention it though?

No other feedback or advice? Any suggestions on how to improve my chances would be greatly appreciated!

i feel like depending on your essay you could probably get in anywhere you want… easily at rice. rice could be your safety hehe…

@spazzy Thanks! Yeah I’m definitely making sure that my essays are refined and unique

Ur definitely in at Stanford with URM, legacy, those stats and extracurricular. Very very high chance at all the other schools as well. Just write killer essays and ur set! Good luck!

@moonstaff Thanks! Yeah I’m really crossing my fingers for Stanford

Legacy at STanford actually doesn’t help that much, compared to the Ivies. But you have excellent chances at Stanford, Yale, Penn, Princeton, and Duke probably in at Cornell and Rice and definitely in at UCLA.

Expect some serious merit aid and also Likely letters coming your way!

I agree with everyone above - your scores are brilliant, and your EC’s are solid, I would think:) Your essays will make all the difference, so no pressure:)

I have a thread up too, would you mind chancing me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1376564-chances-international-student.html</a>
Good luck!

@cortana Yeah I figured the legacy wasn’t going to be that big a boost. Your ‘grouping’ of my chances at the different colleges is helpful

@Yal4Girl Thanks! And sure I’ll chance you tmmrw

Yes apply REA to Stanford. You will be fine. Very impressive resume.

sry for the late response. 10 handicap is like only top 60-70 percent of those who seek to play college golf.

unless you are going to a team that has really sucky golfers, 10 will not even get you looked at.
i’m a 3 and ive gotten only one low ranking local state college who ever saw me and i flat out told him going there would hinder my edu too much even after he offered me 50 to potentaily full there

mind also chancing me at http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1376297-not-stellar-grades-scores-ecs-there-still-hope.html</a>
though there isnt much that i do that can put on apps

yeah I’m definitely not looking to play on a college golf team. I don’t do it to be competitive, just as more of an enjoyable activity

What are you planning to major in? Your stats all seem good, but it’s hard to tell because you don’t seem to have a clear area of focus, which is what top colleges are looking for. Your EC’s just seem to be many different (although impressive) things that don’t revolve around a chosen major (from what I can tell, anyway). That being said, you’ve clearly worked hard, nice job! Just try to make sure most of your EC’s relate to your major so that you appear passionate about your chosen field of study. Best of luck!

I would appreciate it if you would chance me for Princeton. Thank you and good luck (;

At this point, I’m planning to focus on Pre-medicine

So, I guess I would probably major in Biology, Chemistry, or some of the other relevant sciences. There aren’t really any indications of my interest in a pre-med route based on my application, but I’m definitely interested in pursuing it
