Essays:
Very focused on filmmaking and intellectual wit and curiosity. if you want to read them pm me.

Very very good chances, only because you're one of few asian males in the CA area that is NOT overly interested in math/science. Furthermore, your numbers and scores are high, and your major of interest (film studies) is a unique and rare choice.

I'd say you have a fairly good shot, but look into some safety schools aswell. Not that it is a safety per se, but Wesleyan and I think Vassar have nice film studies programs.

ditto Wesleyan; most cali people have never heard of it, but, I think you'll find it holds it own in places where it counts:
http://www.wesleyanargus.com/article/5461

I love film, but I'm not sure if I want to major in film studies. I'm applying undecided to all of my schools.

^ all the more reason you should seriously consider an LAC. ;)

i really am looking for a big school atmosphere though
any thoughts on my chances at my choices?

NYU has a diversity of course offerings coupled with a strong film studies program...?

What is it that you want from the big school atmosphere? If your concern is not being able to get access to research or the like, then I really really really suggest you look more closely at Wesleyan. It has the feel (but not the physical presence) of a big university, but is focused on undergrads. You may want a big school, but you can get individualized attention at a place like Wesleyan.

I'd say as long as you don't come across as too pretentious in your essays (which isn't likely, given how you were able to post all those stats without sounding horrible ;)), it sounds like you're as good as in o.o. You've got RIDICULOUSLY good chances! Great work!!

yea, I mean, you have good shots at nearly every place you've mentioned. The question is whether you'd be happy at some of them when admitted. I''d certainly include NYU if fin/aid is not an issue. Does Stanford even have a Film Dept.? And, are you sure you wouldn't chafe under Columbia's core curriculum? That's two years of your life taking required courses. :/

Does it matter if Stanford has a film department (they do)? My high school didn't have a film department and I was still able to pursue it! I'm not looking to be a film director when I grow up.

I've researched the colleges I'm applying to. I know where I want to go and where I don't. I shouldn't have to explain why or why not. Thank you. The purpose of this post was to get some idea of my chances at these schools and what I can do in the small amount of time to improve them. Thanks.

i agree with other people that have posted, you should look at some other schools. Don't just go for the big names because they sound cool. It looks like you would be a better fit somewhere else, though you have great chances at those schools.

I've looked into many schools, including NYU and to a certain degree Wesleyan.

I am applying to a lot of reach schools and few safeties/matches because one of my top choices is USC, which I can get into rather easily with a great scholarship (parent employment and connections/NMSF). I have a lot of Trojan pride and love the weather and campus.

I think you're in everywhere if you weren't lieing about TASP Finalist.

I don't think you're going to get into Stanford.

some people have told me not to put TASP Finalist on my app (meaning I was one of the 20% selected for an interview and not one of the 10% selected for the program). I still think it's a pretty nice thing to have. Writing all five of those essays wasn't easy!

I'd put TASP Finalist.
