chances for stanford, ucla, uc berk, brown...

this is for a friend of mine...
white, male, cal resident

what are his chances at ucla, stanford, uc berk, brown, and ucsd

sat: 2160 (730m, 710cr, 720cr)

sat2: us=750, mathiic=630

ap:
ap us=4
ap world=3
ap bio=3
ap chem=2
ap calc= taking
ap physics= taking
ap gov= taking
ap stats= taking

ec's:
academic decathlon: 11th
ping pong club treasurer: 11th,12th

major:
i think law or physics

surfed_pipeline:

UCB/UCLA: Match
UCSD: Safe Match

really flopsy? i mean he has 2 ec's which he spends not even an hour into a week. what do u think is helping him get into ucla/berk?

The missing element is gpa. You can't estimate chances at a UC without knowing the weighted gpa as well as scores.

If his weighted gpa is less than 4.0, they are all reaches.

forgot about that, sorry.

9-11: 3.85ish weighted
10-11: 3.8ish weighted

Weighted ? Only 10 and 11 count.

okay so his uc gpa is 3.8.

They're all reaches. Brown and Stanford are reaches for anyone -
UCLA and UCB have average gpas of 4.1. SAT scores are ok, but grades count more, and ECs do matter at these two schools.
If your friend has some special circumstances or hardships, or is a first generation student, he might get a boost, but otherwise, I think even San Diego is a reach.

That doesn't mean he shouldn't apply, though, as you never know.
