Chances for Stanford, UPenn, Northwestern, Rice, Emory, UCBerkeley, Michigan

Hey, I would love some chances on these colleges! I WILL CHANCE BACK!
Here is where I haven't heard back from:

Stanford
UPenn (M&T/SEAS)
Northwestern
Rice
Berkeley
Emory
Michigan

I've gotten into UofIllinois, waitlisted at WashU, and rejected at MIT (all RD)

I'm a man from a moderately competitive public school in Kansas. I'm an international student, but I DID NOT ask for financial aid. I've heard that will help me get in, hopefully. If you have any questions on this, please ask.

Ok then down to my stats:

•UW GPA: 3.72
•W GPA: 4.34 (Top 12% out of 384; GPA is my main negative)
•AP Classes (13 total): Euro, US History, US Gov, Calc BC, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Statistics, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Psychology, English Lang, English Lit.
•SAT: 730 CR, 770 W, 800 M: 2300 (superscored)
•ACT: 35 E, 36 M, 31 S, 32 R: 34 Composite
•SAT II: 700 Math II, 670 Physics, 660 Chemistry
•AP Scores: US History: 4; Chemistry: 4; Euro: 3; Eng Lang: 3; AB subscore: 3
•ECs: - Vice President of State DECA (Business/Marketing Organization)
- 2nd place internationally in DECA Virtual Biz Challenge beating out over 5000 other competitors
- Top 30 in National High School Chess Championships (U1200)
- Top 25 in National High School Chess Championships (Unrated)
- Qualified for FBLA Nationals as a sophomore (2nd in State competition)
- Play drums (tabla) for local spiritual organization; have played in many concerts across the Midwest
- Varsity Tennis; JV XC
- Top 3 in State Science Olympiad; One of Team Captains
• Awards (some mentioned in ECs): National Merit Commended; Scholar Athlete all 4 years
• Employment: 10/2008-01/2009: Target Cashier (about 20 hours weekly)
03/2009-Present: Sears Cashier (20 hours weekly)
• Essays: I would rate most of my essays at least a 4/5; maybe a couple 5/5 and 3/5. Mostly talked about my family arriving in America and how that’s opened up my opportunities and also a lot about my participation/devotion/maturation through DECA. Most were pretty introspective, some were funny.
•Arts Supplement: Sent a CD of me playing my drums (tabla)
• Recs: Assuming most were great/excellent.
• Additional Info: applied to engineering programs if that helps

Please let me know what you think. thanks

UMichigan- Accept
UPenn- Waitlist/reject
Northwestern- Waitlist
Stanford- Reject
Emory- Accept
Berkeley- Reject
Rice - Waitlist/reject

Again, nothing formulaic here, just my gut feelings. The good news is that I'm fairly confident UMich and Emory will accept you.

Oh and FYI Michigan does not weight GPA or superscore...

myCollegeSTAT - University of Michigan: Ann Arbor
myCollegeSTAT - University of Pennsylvania
myCollegeSTAT - Northwestern University
myCollegeSTAT - Stanford University
myCollegeSTAT - Emory University
myCollegeSTAT - University of California: Berkeley
myCollegeSTAT - Rice University

Rice will def reject you. Over 98% of there class is in the top 5% of there school

mCollegeSTAT is not a very accurate or reliable site in that statistics are notoriously difficult to extrapolate on. Honestly, you'll find out in like a week or two any way, so just wait and you might be pleasantly surprised. And if worse comes to worse, you're in at UIllinois, which is a solid school with a great engineering program (especially electrical engineering. I assumed engineering based on MIT + other schools w/ good engineering schools).

Your extracurriciculars and your essay seem really typical. They'll be getting hundreds of these same applicants every year with these stats. Even though your SATs and your leadership are good, I'm afraid nothing about your app really stands out much.

I'd say really good chance at Rice, Berkeley, Emory, and NW

Good Luck!

Being black would help you as that's an URM. You should also send in some of your rap stuff. :-P

I thought you didn't apply to Michigan?
