Chances for Stern (EDII vs RD)

I'm confused as to whether I should apply EDII to NYU Stern. I really want to go there, but I don't want to bind myself in case I get into a better school. I'm applying to Cornell and UVA, and USC-Marshall <--- top 4 choices. And some other schools that I'm not worried about.

What are my chances for Cornell (1st choice Government, 2nd choice Economics)? Should I apply RD to Stern and hope that I get into Cornell, or just screw it and apply EDII to Stern? Do I have a good chance of getting into Stern without EDing?

I'm an Asian Indian female living in Delaware that goes to a not super competitive public high school, but my current class is unusually good, with a whole bunch of people getting accepted into Ivies already.

Hobbies:
- very passionate about dance (bollywood and kpop; minimal formal training but i perform for cultural charity events and cultural shows) there aren't any places for learning indian and hip hop dance where i live, so i teach myself. wrote my commonapp essay on how dance uncovered my passion for culture and how international business would allow me to pursue everything i want in life blahblah

I didn't list my AP scores on my app because some of them are bad and the other ones are average, so I didn't want to send some and not others. Better just not to send them at all.

Oh yeah and my senior schedule is:
AP Biology
Chinese 2
AP Spanish
AP Physics
AP Literature
AP Statistics

Iffy on your GPA, it’s a bit low for Stern, especially so for UVA and Cornell, and a little bit off for USC maybe. Your other qualities are good.

GPA is below average for Stern, but the rest of your app is great!

Like others said, your GPA is a bit low for Stern. Your ECs seem good though. I think if you make your essays amazing, it could somewhat make up for your GPA.

AND OMG YOU LIKE KPOP TOOO???   I’m applying to NYU Stern too. If we both get in, LETS GO DANCE TO KPOP TOGETHER. <3

So should I ED2 it, or take a chance on regular decision? What are my chances if I do ED2 or if I do RD??

leshiney: LOLLLL YAYYY Let’s do it!

My two cents: (Yes, I’m going to shamelessly sell NYU here)

(1) Assuming your school uses a scale where B+ = 87-89 and A- 90-92, your GPA is roughly a 3.3UW, not a 3.5.

(2) Your GPA is a tad low for all of the schools you have listed. However, your SAT scores are very good.

(3) You’re applying to Stern for business obviously, which is just as competitive as Cornell admissions (SAT scores for NYU Stern and CAS are very similar to Cornell’s). The only undergraduate business program out of those schools you’ve listed (NYU Stern, UVa, USC Marshall) which is ranked higher than Stern is UVa. However, Stern provides connections which UVa simply cannot. Arguably making Stern the better choice.

(4) Assuming you’re interested in economics, you could always apply to NYU CAS economics rather than Stern, as CAS economics enjoys the same opportunities from employers as does Stern. Remember, CAS economics is one of the best Economics programs of its type - ranked above Cornell, UVa, USC and even CalTech. Of course, CAS is only marginally easier to get into over Stern.

(4) Assuming you prefer politics (judging by your government 1st choice at Cornell), NYU outranks Cornell (as well as every other school you’ve listed) overall in politics. Remember, NYU boasts Beuno de Mesquita, among many other world-famous political methodologists. Just to prove my point, NYU is ranked #6 for political methodology. For comparison, Princeton ranks #5, MIT #10, Columbia #13

(6) You stand a better chance applying ED NYU over your other choices, simply because of the ED boost (albeit small). The disadvantage to applying ED is that you will not get as much financial aid.
