Hi these are my stats And I was wondering what my chances are for getting into this school. My SAT scores are not too hot and I'm a bit worried. I applied for Fall 2010 Early Admissions. I am also an in-state student. I had visited the campus and I really like it there. Should I be worrying about not getting in?

wow, idk, your SAT scores don’t match up with your class rank at all. HOW TERRIBLE IS YOUR SCHOOL? not to be mean but litterally everyone in the top 25% of my school has at least a 2100…
I would deff. take the SATs again, otherwise there is like a 40% chance of you getting in

My High School ranks 70th of 1041 New York public high schools. And I took the SAT’s twice, SO i don’t know if I want to take it again. I’m just not good at the SAT’s. But I applied for early Decision does that help at all? Also University at Buffalo’s range is 1130- 1260. My score happens to be a 1140 math and CR. So i fit their range.

Im from dutchess county and I don’t think I want to take the SAT anymore cause it would be my 3rd time. Also I was hoping if my GPA and Course Load would compensate for the SAT scores. Also ED acceptance rate is higher 74%.

Thanks for the response. It looks like a really good school to me. Also i heard the atmosphere is great. I really hope I get in to this school. I was just worried because my SAT scores were iffy (500CR).

More Feedback from more people would be great.

I think that you’re probably fine for RD. Don’t know what the ED procedures are there - if you’re not accepted ED are you put in the RD pool? UB has a slightly more holistic view for admissions and you’re well within the accepted range. Test scores alone shouldn’t exclude you, especially as your gpa, course rigor, and class rank are all good. I know several kids who were accepted last year with stats nearly identical to yours. Good luck!

Fwiw, the SAT is a test that many bright kids don’t seem to conquer so don’t worry about it too much. I know many of the top 10% in my D’s class didn’t score exceptionally well though they had taken many AP’s, dual enrollments, had great Regents test scores, etc. and were accepted to some very good schools (a few took the ACT to boost their app). I don’t know why this is, my theory is that our school values research and writing skills and that these kids hadn’t seen word problems in a very long time, especially not ones designed with “tricks”! Test prep is not a big thing here, beyond reviewing the Blue Book, so maybe that’s a factor too as time is important on the SAT. UB actually conducted a study of their own students and found that high school gpa and coursework were better predictors of college success…too bad SUNY hasn’t gone “test optional”!

xbleachx – I would say you have an excellent chance of admission to Buffalo. CCers often make too much of SAT scores. Considering that you are from an Upstate county where SAT prep and multiple takings of the test are rarities I think Buffalo admissions will take that into consideration and will focus on the rigor of your curriculum, your classroom performance and your rank.
