In fall I will be going into senior year. My average GPA is 3.5(out of the school's GPA system which is an equivalent to a B+ average). I go to a very good, highly competitive public school.

After senior year I will have taken these classes:
Spanish 1, Spanish 2, Spanish 3
English 1, English 2, AP English Language & AP English Literature(Junior & Senior year)
Geometry(freshman year), Trig(sophomore year), precalc(junior year), calc(senior year)
physical science, bio, chem, physics
World history, Euro history, US 1, US2
and various electives/gym

I am in the school literary magazine junior & senior year.

My sat scores are low though
Math: 650
Reading: 600
Writing: 510

Your Writing score isnt on par with your Math and Reading. RETAKE!! Have you tried the SAT? Depending on whether your instate or out of state, SUNY will be a reach, and Syracuse will be a match. But remember to retake your SAT!!!

Thanks for your reply! I’m out of state. I plan on retaking the sat, but do colleges really look at the writing score? I’m also going to be taking the SAT2 in october.

Thanks guys! I thought being in state helps more than being out of state? Also do you think I’d get into Penn State(my top choice at the moment), I’m also out of state.

Penn State is a low reach/high target if you bring up your writing, though you might do better on the ACT - have you tried it?

With IS v OOS, OOS gets the university more money (so they want to accept you unless you need aid), but with IS there are more spaces available. It really comes down to the state.

Syacuse is a high target, and SUNY Binghamton should be a likely.
