Thanks guys

don't hold your breath for an acceptance, unless there's something you're hiding you have really mundane EC's and mediocre stats.

thanks for your honest response. at this point i dont think even a 2400 can save me.

ouch ramses...that hurts...

You have as much of a chance as everyone else...work hard on your essays...

nice allstate...I've never tried out but I know you need real skills to make it. Congrats.

Umm you have a chance for sure. Just write good essays, apply, and you'll find out in due time.:)

thanks but i think compared to most accepted students, my gpa alone may kick me out of the pool. i heard something that something like 1% make up the accepted students with a gpa lower than 3.8 for Harvard, Stanford or any other top tier colleges. :[

I think you're very competive, providing your SAT 1 breaks 2100. Two persons from my highschool got into Harvard. One was an Star Track Athlete (African-American), and the other is an human right activist (Chinese-American). Their scores were good, but similar to your. They focus on their passion like you with your violin. You stand a good chance as anybody.

your gpa won't keep you out of the running, non-recruited athletes and non-legacies get into harvard with 3.6's... it's rare, but it happens-- i don't think you have no chance especially if you're just going to be a junior ('08) like your handle indicates. I'm just saying as it stands now you don't look super exciting--but who knows, as i said, you could be hiding that you're insanely good at violin or something. if you are a junior, do something interesting the summer before senior year and you should be more than fine.

ps: you never know unless you try, so apply and don't get discouraged (i have a 3.6 and i'm applying to harvard too, and what i said for you goes for me too... so no worries :) )... just understand that probability says we won't get in.

how good must the athelete be to be recruited by harvard for a sport? state champ? state qualifier? etc..

it depends, it's a sliding scale. if you're insanely good they're more willing to let things slide with academics, but they prefer a solid athlete with excellent academics--ie, if you had a decent shot at the school on your own AND you are a very good (maybe not excellent) athlete you are probably in the best shape. keep in mind that it varies by how strong the school's program is in that specific sport, and oftentimes "very good" still means you are one of the top handful in your state.
